Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke

Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

In 1835 Alexander Baring 1st Baron Ashburton [aged 60] was created 1st Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon. Ann Louisa Bingham Baroness Ashburton [aged 52] by marriage Baroness Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.

On 17th November 1858 Bingham Baring 2nd Baron Ashburton [aged 59] and Louisa Caroline Stewart Baroness Ashburton [aged 31] were married. She by marriage Baroness Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon. The difference in their ages was 27 years.

On 23rd March 1864 Bingham Baring 2nd Baron Ashburton [aged 64] died. His brother Francis [aged 63] succeeded 3rd Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon. Claire Hortense Maret Baroness Ashburton [aged 52] by marriage Baroness Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.

On 18th July 1889 Alexander Hugh Baring 4th Baron Ashburton [aged 54] died at Bath House. His son Francis [aged 22] succeeded 5th Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.

On 27th March 1938 Francis Denzil Edward Baring 5th Baron Ashburton [aged 71] died. His son Alexander [aged 39] succeeded 6th Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.

On 12th June 1991 Alexander Baring 6th Baron Ashburton [aged 93] died. His son John [aged 62] succeeded 7th Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.

On 6th October 2020 John Francis Baring 7th Baron Ashburton [aged 91] died. His son Mark [aged 62] succeeded 8th Baron Ashburton of Ashburton in Devon.
