John Brookes 1st Baronet 1636-1691

On or before 9th June 1636 John Brookes 1st Baronet was born to James Brookes of York. He was baptised on 9th June 1636 at St Martin le Grand Church, York [Map].

In 1662 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 25] was elected Fellow of the Royal Society; he was expelled in 1685.

Before 1st March 1673 [his daughter] Deborah Brookes was born to John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 36] and [his future wife] Mary Waller. She married 25th November 1701 William Fitzmaurice and had issue.

In or before 1675 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 38] and Mary Waller were married. They had four sons and seven daughters.

Around 1675 [his son] James Brookes 2nd Baronet  1675-1742 was born to John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 38] and [his wife] Mary Waller.

On 13th June 1676 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 40] was created 1st Baronet Brookes of York in Yorkshire.

In 1679 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 42] was elected MP Boroughbridge.

In 1681 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 44] was elected MP Boroughbridge.

On 18th November 1691 John Brookes 1st Baronet [aged 55] died. He was buried at St Martin le Grand Church, York [Map]. His son James [aged 16] succeeded 2nd Baronet Brookes of York in Yorkshire.
