In 1716 John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 38] changed his name from Shute to Barrington by Act of Parliament as a consequence of his having inherited the estate of the husband of his first cousin Elizabeth Shute who had been married to Francis Barrington of Tofts.
On 15th January 1717 [his son] William Wildman Barrington 2nd Viscount Barrington was born to John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 39] and [his wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 27].

In 1722 John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 44] was elected MP Berwick on Tweed.
In 1722 [his son] John Barrington was born to John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 44] and [his wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 32].
In 1723 John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 45] was expelled from the House of Commons for having promoted a fraudulent lottery.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

In 1729 [his daughter] Anne Barrington was born to John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 51] and [his wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 39]. She married 1753 Thomas Clarges, son of Thomas Clarges 2nd Baronet and Frances Berkeley.
On 15th September 1730 [his son] Admiral Samuel Barrington was born to John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 52] and [his wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 40].
On 26th May 1734 [his son] Bishop Shute Barrington was born to John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 56] and [his wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 44]. He married 2nd February 1761 Diana Beauclerk, daughter of Charles Beauclerk 2nd Duke St Albans and Lucy Werden Duchess St Albans.
On 14th December 1734 John Shute aka Barrington 1st Viscount Barrington [aged 56] died. His son William [aged 17] succeeded 2nd Viscount Barrington of Ardglass in County Down, 2nd Viscount Barrington of Ardglass in County Down.
On 8th February 1783 [his former wife] Anne Daines Viscountess Barrington [aged 93] died.
