Jacob Epstein 1880-1959

On 10th November 1880 Jacob Epstein was born to Max Jarogenski aka Epstein and Mary Solomon at 102 Hester Street, Lower East Side. He was the third of eight children that survived to adulthood.

In 1906 Jacob Epstein [aged 25] and Margaret Dunlop were married.

1942. "Deidre" by Jacob Epstein [aged 61]. Bought by the trustees of the Lady Lever Art Gallery [Map] in 1948. Deirdre was Epstein's family cook and housekeeper from 1939-42 whom he sculpted three times.

In June 1955 Jacob Epstein [aged 74] and Kathleen Garman [aged 54] were married at Fulham Register Office. She had been his partner since 1921. The difference in their ages was 20 years.

On 21st August 1959 Jacob Epstein [aged 78] died.

In August 1979 [his former wife] Kathleen Garman [aged 78] died.
