In 1692 [his father] Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 24] and [his mother] Anne Petty Countess Kerry [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] William Petty and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Waller 1st Baroness Shelburne [aged 56].
In 1706 John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne was born to Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 38] and Anne Petty Countess Kerry [aged 35].
On 17th January 1723 [his father] Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 55] was created 1st Earl Kerry. [his mother] Anne Petty Countess Kerry [aged 52] by marriage Countess Kerry.
In 1737 [his mother] Anne Petty Countess Kerry [aged 66] died.
Before 2nd May 1737 John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 31] and Mary Fitzmaurice Countess Shelburne were married. He the son of Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 69] and Anne Petty Countess Kerry. They were half first cousins.
On 2nd May 1737 [his son] William Petty 1st Marquess Lansdowne was born to John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 31] and [his wife] Mary Fitzmaurice Countess Shelburne at Dublin [Map]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.91%. He married (1) 3rd February 1765 Sophia Carteret Countess Shelburne, daughter of John Carteret 2nd Earl Granville and Sophia Fermor Countess Granville, and had issue (2) after 5th January 1771 Louisa Fitzpatrick Marchioness Lansdowne, daughter of John Fitzpatrick 1st Earl Upper Ossory and Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory, and had issue.
In 1738 [his brother] William Fitzmaurice 2nd Earl Kerry [aged 44] and [his sister-in-law] Gertrude Lambart were married. He the son of [his father] Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 70] and [his mother] Anne Petty Countess Kerry.
Under a Chancery decree of 1739 the park and Bowood House [Map], which Sir Orlando Bridgeman [aged 60] had built on it, were acquired by Richard Long, Sir Orlando's principal creditor, who sold them in 1754 to John Petty [aged 33], earl of Shelburne. Petty devised them to his wife Mary, who in 1761 or 1762 conveyed them to her son William Petty [aged 1], earl of Shelburne (cr. marquess of Lansdowne 1784, d. 1805).
On 16th March 1741 [his father] Thomas Fitzmurice 1st Earl Kerry [aged 73] died. His son [his brother] William [aged 47] succeeded 2nd Earl Kerry.
In July 1742 [his son] Thomas Fitzmaurice Earl Orkney was born to John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 36] and [his wife] Mary Fitzmaurice Countess Shelburne. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.91%. He married 1777 Mary O'Brien 4th Countess Orkney, daughter of Murrough O'Brien 1st Marquess Thomond and Mary O'Brien 3rd Countess Orkney and Inchquin, and had issue.
Westminster Chronicle of King Richard II, 1381-1394

On 4th April 1747 [his brother] William Fitzmaurice 2nd Earl Kerry [aged 53] died. His son [his nephew] Francis [aged 6] succeeded 3rd Earl Kerry.
On 17th April 1751 [his uncle] Henry Petty 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 75] died. Earl Shelburne in County Wexford, Baron Shelburne extinct. His estates were inherited by his nephew John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 45] who changed his surname to Petty-Fitzmaurice.
In 5th June 1753 John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 47] was created 1st Earl Shelburne in County Wexford. [his wife] Mary Fitzmaurice Countess Shelburne by marriage Countess Shelburne in County Wexford.
On 14th May 1761 John Petty-Fitzmaurice 1st Earl Shelburne [aged 55] died. His son William [aged 24] succeeded 2nd Earl Shelburne in County Wexford.
On 9th December 1780 [his former wife] Mary Fitzmaurice Countess Shelburne died.
