On 24th September 1914 Thomas Tyrer [aged 23] enlisted in Glossop aged twenty-two years and eight months into General Service. His trade is given as Labourer.
On 1st October 1916 Thomas Tyrer [aged 25] was killed in action whilst serving with the 8th Battalion of the Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire) Regiment. Service Number 15373. He has a memorial at Pier and Face 7 A and 7 B Thiepval Memorial Cemetery, Somme, France. At the time of his death his mother was living at 4 Sett Bank, Hayfield.
