Richard Coote 1st Earl Bellomont 1636-1701

In 1636 Richard Coote 1st Earl Bellomont was born to Richard Coote 1st Baron Coote [aged 16].

In 1681 [his son] Nanfan Coote 2nd Earl Bellomont was born to Richard Coote 1st Earl Bellomont [aged 45]. He married 11th February 1705 Lucia Anna van Nassau and had issue.

On 10th July 1683 [his father] Richard Coote 1st Baron Coote [aged 63] died. His son Richard [aged 47] succeeded 2nd Baron Coote.

On 2nd November 1689 Richard Coote 1st Earl Bellomont [aged 53] was created 1st Earl Bellomont by King William III of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 38] and was granted over 300 km2 of forfeited Irish lands. The land grant was highly controversial in Parliament, and was eventually rescinded by William.

On 5th March 1701 Richard Coote 1st Earl Bellomont [aged 65] died. His son Nanfan [aged 20] succeeded 2nd Earl Bellomont.

On 10th March 1736 Colonel William Cosby [aged 46] died of tuberculosis between 1 and 2 pm, in the Governor's House at Fort George, New York, today's Battery Park, New York City. He was initially buried in a vault at Fort George's chapel. But in 1788, his remains were moved to an unmarked grave at St Paul Church's Cemetery, New York, together with the remains of the Earl of Bellomont, who served as New York governor between 1698 and 1701.
