Adam Murimuth Continuation. In this year Richard de Gravesend, bishop of London, died1, and Ralph de Baldock was unanimously elected by the chapter. But P. de Dene and J. de Saint-Clair, having previously there been justly deprived of their canonries by Archbishop Robert, appealed because they had not been admitted to the election. And so the matter was referred to the Roman curia.
Hoc anno moritur Ricardus de Gravesende, episcopus Londoniensis, et electus est concorditer Radulphus de Baldok per capitulum; sed P. de Dene, et J. de Sancto Claro, per archiepiscopum Robertum suis canonicatibus prius juste privati ibidem, quia ad electionem admissi non fuerant, appellarunt. Et sic fuit negotium ad Romanam curiam devolutum.
Note 1. Richard de Gravesend, was consecrated Bishop of London in 1280. He died 9th December 1303. He was succeeded as Bishop by Bishop Ralph Baldock who later became Lord Chancellor.

In the same year, on Monday, the vigil of Saint Matthias the Apostle [23rd February 1304], Master Ralph de Baldock, Dean of the church of Saint Paul in London, was elected Bishop of London.

Annals Londonienses. In the same year, around the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary [15th August 1304], Master Ralph Baldock, Dean of London and bishop-elect of the Church of St Paul, crossed the sea towards the Roman Curia.
Eodem anno, circa festum Assumptionis beatæ Mariæ, transfretavit magister Radulfus de Baldok, decanus Londoniarum et electus ecclesiæ Sancti Pauli, versus curiam Romanam.
On 30th January 1306 Bishop Ralph Baldock was consecrated Bishop of London.
Annals Londonienses. In the same year, on the sixteenth day before the Kalends of August [17th July 1306], which is called Sunday, Sir Ralph Baldock, Bishop of London, was enthroned in the church of St Paul. Sir Walter Langton, Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, and the Bishop of Rochester enthroned him with great solemnity and feasting.

On 30th April 1307 Bishop Ralph Baldock was appointed Lord Chancellor.
On 17th November 1311 Bishop Ralph Baldock licensed St Mary-le-Bow Church, Cheapside [Map], as a chapel of ease
Annales Paulini. In the same year, on the vigil of St James the Apostle [24th July 1313], Ralph de Baldock, Bishop of London, died at Stepney. During his tenure he had given 200 marks sterling each year towards the new work of St Paul's Cathedral in London, and he was buried in the new work. In the same year, on the seventeenth day before the Kalends of September [16th August], which was a Friday, Master Gilbert de Segrave [aged 47], precentor of St Paul's Cathedral, a man noble in birth and character, was elected Bishop of London. In the same year, on the feast of St Katherine [of Alexandria] the Virgin [25th November], he was consecrated at Canterbury.
Eodem anno, in vigilia Sancti Jacobi apostoli, obiit Radulfus de Baldok, episcopus Londoniarum, apud Stebendockhethe; qui quolibet anno pro tempore suo dedit novo operi Sancti Pauli Londoniensis cc. marcas sterlingorum; sepultusque est in novo opere. Eodem anno, XVII kalendas Septembris, qui fuit dies Veneris, magister Gilbertus de Segrave, cantor ecclesiæ Sancti Pauli, vir nobilis genere et moribus, electus est in episcopum Londoniensem; et eodem anno, in festo Sanctæ Katerinæ virginis, apud Cantuariam consecratus est.
On 24th July 1313 Bishop Ralph Baldock died.
Annals Londonienses. In the same year, on the vigil of St James the Apostle [24th July], Sir Ralph de Baldock, Bishop of London, died at Stepney. He was succeeded in the bishopric by Gilbert de Segrave. In the same year, Robert Burdeyn, goldsmith, and Hugh de Garton, spicer, were sheriffs of London. In the same year, at the feast of Saints Simon and Jude [28th October], Nicholas de Farndone was elected mayor of London.
