The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

Susan Harriet Innes-Kerr: On 13th November 1837 she was born to James Innes-Kerr 6th Duke Roxburghe. On 6th August 1857 James Grant-Suttie 6th Baronet and she were married. She the daughter of James Innes-Kerr 6th Duke Roxburghe. On 16th October 1909 Susan Harriet Innes-Kerr died. Her funeral was held on 21st October 1909 at Prestonpans Parish Church. All Prestonpans shops and businesses were closed from midday as a mark of respect, with residents of the town lining the streets as her funeral cortege passed by. Her body was then conveyed on a special train service to Dunbar [Map] where she was buried. The pallbearers at Dunbar included her sons-in-law, Sir Neil Menzies, Bart-the second husband of her daughter Susan and George Smith, her grandson Viscount Dalrymple, her nephew the Duke of Roxburghe, plus Lord Charles Innes Ker, Mr Robert Grant Suttie, Lord Montgomerie and Mr John Russel carried her coffin from the station to the churchyard. In 1911 a plaque to her memory was unveiled at Prestonpans Parish Church.
