In 1458 William Bonville 6th Baron Harington (age 16) and [his mother] Katherine Neville Baroness Bonville and Hastings (age 16) were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Richard Neville Earl Salisbury (age 58) and [his grandmother] Alice Montagu 5th Countess of Salisbury (age 51). They were fourth cousin once removed. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

Before 6th February 1462 [his father] William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings (age 31) and [his mother] Katherine Neville Baroness Bonville and Hastings (age 20) were married. She by marriage Baroness Hastings. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Richard Neville Earl Salisbury and [his grandmother] Alice Montagu 5th Countess of Salisbury (age 55). They were half fourth cousin once removed. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

15 May 1464 Battle of Hexham

On 18th May 1464 Robert Hungerford 3rd Baron Hungerford 1st Baron Moleyns (age 33) was executed at Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland [Map] having been captured at the Battle of Hexham. He was buried at the Hungerford Chapel at Salisbury Cathedral [Map]. His daughter [his future wife] Mary Hungerford Baroness Hastings, 4th Baroness Hungerford, 5th Baroness Botreaux and 2nd Baroness Moleyns became the ward of [his father] William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings (age 33) whose son Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns she subsequently married.

On 26th November 1466 Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns was born to William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings (age 35) and Katherine Neville Baroness Bonville and Hastings (age 24) at Kirkby Muxloe Castle [Map]. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In 1475 Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 8) was invested as Knight of the Bath.

On 4th September 1475 Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 8) and Mary Hungerford Baroness Hastings, 4th Baroness Hungerford, 5th Baroness Botreaux and 2nd Baroness Moleyns (age 9) were married. They were second cousin once removed. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

On 7th February 1478 Margaret Botreaux 4th Baroness Botreaux Baroness Hungerford died. Her great granddaughter [his wife] Mary (age 12) succeeded 5th Baroness Botreaux. Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 11) by marriage Baron Botreaux.

Execution of William Hastings by Richard III

On 13th June 1483 Richard, Duke of Gloucester (age 30), [future King Richard III] held a Council meeting at the Tower of London [Map] attended by [his father] William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings (age 52), Cardinal John Morton (age 63), Archbishop Thomas Rotherham (age 59) and Henry Stafford 2nd Duke of Buckingham (age 28). During the course of the meeting Richard accused William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings, Cardinal John Morton and Archbishop Thomas Rotherham of treasonable conspiracy with the Queen (age 46).

William Hastings 1st Baron Hastings was summarily beheaded at Tower Green, Tower of London [Map]. He was buried in North Aisle St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle [Map] next to King Edward IV of England. His son Edward (age 16) succeeded 2nd Baron Hastings.

Cardinal John Morton and Archbishop Thomas Rotherham were arrested.

Around 1485 [his daughter] Anne Hastings Countess Derby was born to Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 18) and [his wife] Mary Hungerford Baroness Hastings, 4th Baroness Hungerford, 5th Baroness Botreaux and 2nd Baroness Moleyns (age 19).

In 1487 [his son] George Hastings 1st Earl Huntingdon was born to Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 20) and [his wife] Mary Hungerford Baroness Hastings, 4th Baroness Hungerford, 5th Baroness Botreaux and 2nd Baroness Moleyns (age 21) at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire.

Before 1503 [his son-in-law] Thomas Stanley 2nd Earl of Derby (age 17) and [his daughter] Anne Hastings Countess Derby (age 17) were married. She by marriage Countess Derby. They were second cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King Edward III of England. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

In 1503 [his mother] Katherine Neville Baroness Bonville and Hastings (age 61) died.

In or before 1506 [his son] William Hastings was born to Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 39) and [his wife] Mary Hungerford Baroness Hastings, 4th Baroness Hungerford, 5th Baroness Botreaux and 2nd Baroness Moleyns (age 39). Date adjusted from 1510 to 1506 to be consistent with father's death.

On 8th November 1506 Edward Hastings 2nd Baron Hastings Baron Botreaux, Hungerford and Moleyns (age 39) died. His son [his son] George (age 19) succeeded 3rd Baron Hastings.

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.
