Biography of George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal 1797-1883

Paternal Family Tree: Chichester

On 10th February 1797 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal was born to [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal [aged 27] at Great Cumberland Place.

On 5th January 1799 [his grandfather] Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess Donegal [aged 59] died. His son [his father] George [aged 29] succeeded 2nd Marquess Donegal, 6th Earl Donegal, 2nd Baron Fisherwick of Fisherwick in Staffordshire.

Before 1818 [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal [aged 48] and Anna May were married. In 1818 it came to light that Anna May was illegitimate and underage when she married meaning the marriage was invalid, and, consequently, their issue Illegitimate. Proceedings were put in place to allow the eldest son to retain his place in the inheritance. He the son of [his grandfather] Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess Donegal and [his grandmother] Anne Hamilton Countess Donegal.

On 21st September 1821 [his brother] Edward Chichester 4th Marquess Donegal [aged 22] and [his sister-in-law] Amelia Ogrady Marchioness County Donegal were married. He the son of [his father] George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal [aged 52].

In 1822 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 24] and Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of Richard Butler 1st Earl Glengall. He the son of George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal [aged 52].

On 26th May 1826 [his son] George Augustus Chichester was born to George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 29] and [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal [aged 27]. He died aged one in 1827.

On 18th June 1827 [his son] George Augustus Chichester [aged 1] died.

On 25th November 1827 [his son] Frederick Richard Chichester was born to George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 30] and [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal [aged 28].

On 29th October 1833 Lieutenant-General Frederick Ashworth and [his future wife] Harriet Graham Marchioness Donegal [aged 3] were married.

In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. He was buried at St Nicholas' Church, Carrickfergus, County Antrim. His son George [aged 47] succeeded 3rd Marquess Donegal, 3rd Baron Fisherwick of Fisherwick in Staffordshire. On 11th February 1853 [his son] Frederick Richard Chichester [aged 25] died at Naples [Map].

On 22nd August 1857 [his son-in-law] Anthony Ashley-Cooper 8th Earl Shaftesbury [aged 26] and Harriet Augusta Anna Seymourina Chichester Countess Shaftesbury were married. She the daughter of George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 60] and Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal [aged 58]. He the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper 7th Earl Shaftesbury [aged 56] and Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper Countess Shaftesbury.

On 14th September 1860 [his wife] Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal [aged 61] died.

On 26th February 1862 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 65] and Harriet Graham Marchioness Donegal [aged 32] were married. She by marriage Marchioness Donegal. The difference in their ages was 32 years. He the son of George Chichester 2nd Marquess Donegal.

On 20th October 1883 George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal [aged 86] died. His brother Edward [aged 84] succeeded 4th Marquess Donegal, 4th Baron Fisherwick of Fisherwick in Staffordshire. Amelia Ogrady Marchioness County Donegal by marriage Marchioness Donegal.

On 6th March 1884 [his former wife] Harriet Graham Marchioness Donegal [aged 54] died.

[his daughter] Harriet Augusta Anna Seymourina Chichester Countess Shaftesbury was born to George Chichester 3rd Marquess Donegal and Harriet Anne Butler Marchioness Donegal. She married 22nd August 1857 Anthony Ashley-Cooper 8th Earl Shaftesbury, son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper 7th Earl Shaftesbury and Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper Countess Shaftesbury, and had issue.
