Biography of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath 1765-1837

In 1759 [his father] Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath [aged 24] and [his mother] Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Viscountess Weymouth. She the daughter of [his grandfather] William Bentinck 2nd Duke Portland [aged 49] and [his grandmother] Margaret Cavendish Harley 2nd Duchess Portland [aged 43]. They were third cousins.

On 23rd January 1765 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath was born to [his father] Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath [aged 30] and [his mother] Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 29].

Around 1777 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 11] educated at Winchester College, Winchester.

On 18th November 1781 [his brother-in-law] Heneage Finch 4th Earl Aylesford [aged 30] and [his sister] Louisa Thynne Countess Aylesford [aged 21] were married. She by marriage Countess Aylesford. She the daughter of [his father] Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath [aged 47] and [his mother] Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 46]. He the son of Heneage Finch 3rd Earl Aylesford and Charlotte Seymour Countess Aylesford [aged 51].

In 1786 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 20] was elected MP Weobley.

In 1787 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 21] graduated Master of Arts: Cambridge University at St John's College, Cambridge University [Map].

In 1790 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 24] was elected MP Bath.

On 14th April 1794 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 29] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 20] were married. He the son of Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath [aged 59] and Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 58]. They were fifth cousins.

On 27th February 1795 [his daughter] Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 30] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 21]. She married 5th September 1816 her fifth cousin once removed John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor, son of John Campbell 1st Baron Cawdor and Isabella Caroline Howard Baroness Cawdor, and had issue.

On 9th April 1796 [his son] Thomas Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 31] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 22].

On 19th November 1796 [his father] Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath [aged 62] died. His son Thomas [aged 31] succeeded 2nd Marquess of Bath, 4th Viscount Weymouth, 4th Baron Thynne of Warminster in Wiltshire, 5th Baronet Thynne of Kempsford in Gloucestershire. [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 23] by marriage Marchioness of Bath.

On 4th May 1797 [his son] Henry Frederick Thynne 3rd Marquess of Bath was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 32] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 23]. He married 19th April 1830 Harriet Baring Marchioness Bath, daughter of Alexander Baring 1st Baron Ashburton and Ann Louisa Bingham Baroness Ashburton, and had issue.

On 9th May 1797 [his brother] George Thynne 2nd Baron Carteret [aged 27] and [his sister-in-law] Harriet Courtenay Baroness Carteret [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Baroness Carteret of Hawnes. She the daughter of William Courtenay 8th Earl Devon and Frances Clack Countess Devon. He the son of [his father] Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath and [his mother] Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 61].

On 7th November 1798 [his son] John Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 33] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 25]. He married 2nd March 1824 Anne Constantia Beresford and had issue.

On 25th March 1801 [his daughter] Louisa Thynne Countess Harewood was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 36] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 27]. She married 5th July 1823 Henry Lascelles 3rd Earl Harewood, son of Henry Lascelles 2nd Earl Harewood and Henrietta Sebright Countess Harewood, and had issue.

On 17th October 1803 [his son] William Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 38] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 30]. He married 19th December 1861 Belinda Brummell.

On 20th January 1805 [his son] Francis Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 39] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 31].

On 23rd January 1807 [his son] Edward Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 42] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 33].

On 25th December 1808 [his son] George Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 43] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 35].

On 10th April 1811 [his daughter] Charlotte Anne Thynne Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 46] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 37]. She married 13th August 1829 her fifth cousin once removed Walter Scott 5th Duke Buccleuch 7th Duke Queensberry, son of Charles Scott 4th Duke Buccleuch 6th Duke Queensberry and Harriet Katherine Townshend Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury, and had issue.

On 9th February 1813 [his son] Charles Thynne was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 48] and [his wife] Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 39]. He married 18th July 1837 his fourth cousin Harriet Bagot, daughter of Bishop Richard Bagot and Harriet Villiers, and had issue.

On 5th September 1816 [his son-in-law] John Campbell 1st Earl Cawdor [aged 25] and Elizabeth Thynne Countess Cawdor [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 51] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 42]. They were fifth cousin once removed.

In 1819 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 53] was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Somerset.

On 29th May 1821 [his son] Francis Thynne [aged 16] died.

On 5th July 1823 [his son-in-law] Henry Lascelles 3rd Earl Harewood [aged 26] and Louisa Thynne Countess Harewood [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 58] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 49]. He the son of Henry Lascelles 2nd Earl Harewood [aged 55] and Henrietta Sebright Countess Harewood.

On 16th July 1823 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 58] was appointed 658th Knight of the Garter by King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland [aged 60].

On 2nd March 1824 John Thynne [aged 25] and Anne Constantia Beresford [aged 18] were married at St James' Church, Piccadilly. He the son of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 59] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 50].

On 12th December 1825 [his mother] Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath [aged 90] died. Memorial in Saints Peter and Paul Church, Longbridge Deverill [Map].

Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath: On 27th June 1735 she was born to William Bentinck 2nd Duke Portland and Margaret Cavendish Harley 2nd Duchess Portland at Welbeck Abbey, Nottinghamshire [Map]. In 1759 Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath and she were married. She by marriage Viscountess Weymouth. She the daughter of William Bentinck 2nd Duke Portland and Margaret Cavendish Harley 2nd Duchess Portland. They were third cousins.

In 1826 [his uncle] Henry Carteret 1st Baron Carteret [aged 91] died. His nephew [his brother] George [aged 55] succeeded 2nd Baron Carteret.

On 13th August 1829 [his son-in-law] Walter Scott 5th Duke Buccleuch 7th Duke Queensberry and Charlotte Anne Thynne Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury [aged 18] were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. She by marriage Duchess Buccleuch and Duchess Queensberry. She the daughter of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 64] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 55]. He the son of Charles Scott 4th Duke Buccleuch 6th Duke Queensberry and Harriet Katherine Townshend Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury. They were fifth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 19th April 1830 Henry Frederick Thynne 3rd Marquess of Bath [aged 32] and Harriet Baring Marchioness Bath [aged 25] were married. He the son of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 65] and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath [aged 56].

Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath: On 21st September 1773 she was born to George Byng 4th Viscount Torrington and Lucy Boyle Viscountess Torrington. On 14th April 1794 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath and she were married. He the son of Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath and Elizabeth Bentinck Marchioness Bath. They were fifth cousins. On 19th November 1796 Thomas Thynne 1st Marquess of Bath died. His son Thomas succeeded 2nd Marquess of Bath, 4th Viscount Weymouth, 4th Baron Thynne of Warminster in Wiltshire, 5th Baronet Thynne of Kempsford in Gloucestershire. She by marriage Marchioness of Bath.

On 19th June 1832 [his son] George Thynne [aged 23] died.

On 28th December 1832 [his sister] Louisa Thynne Countess Aylesford [aged 72] died.

On 16th January 1837 [his son] Thomas Thynne [aged 40] died.

On 27th March 1837 Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath [aged 72] died. His son Henry [aged 39] succeeded 3rd Marquess of Bath, 5th Viscount Weymouth, 5th Baron Thynne of Warminster in Wiltshire, 6th Baronet Thynne of Kempsford in Gloucestershire. Henry Frederick Thynne 3rd Marquess of Bath: On 4th May 1797 he was born to Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath. On 19th April 1830 Henry Frederick Thynne 3rd Marquess of Bath and Harriet Baring Marchioness Bath were married. He the son of Thomas Thynne 2nd Marquess of Bath and Isabella Elizabeth Byng Marchioness Bath. On 24th June 1837 Henry Frederick Thynne 3rd Marquess of Bath died. His son John succeeded 4th Marquess of Bath, 6th Viscount Weymouth, 6th Baron Thynne of Warminster in Wiltshire, 7th Baronet Thynne of Kempsford in Gloucestershire. The Times. 27th January 1916. The death of Lady Ulrica Thynne took place on Wednesday at 30, Grosvenor-gardens. She was the second daughter of the 12th Duke of Somerset and was born in 1833. She married, in 1858, Lord Henry Frederick Thynne, second son of the third Marquess of Bath, who was Treasurer of the Household to Queen Victoria and for over 25 years M.P. for South Wilts. There were four sons and two daughters of the marriage. The funeral will be at Findon, near Worthing, on Monday, at 1 o'clock.

Harriet Baring Marchioness Bath: On 3rd May 1804 she was born to Alexander Baring 1st Baron Ashburton and Ann Louisa Bingham Baroness Ashburton. On 2nd January 1892 Harriet Baring Marchioness Bath died.
