Biography of William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian 1763-1824

Paternal Family Tree: Kerr

On 15th July 1762 [his father] William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 25) and [his mother] Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian (age 17) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] William Henry Kerr 4th Marquess Lothian (age 52) and [his grandmother] Caroline Darcy Marchioness Lothian.

On 4th October 1763 William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian was born to William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 26) and Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian (age 18).

On 2nd March 1780 Armar Lowry-Corry 1st Earl Belmore (age 39) and [his future wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 17) were married. She by marriage Countess Belmore in the County of Fermanagh. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] John Hobart 2nd Earl Buckinghamshire (age 56) and Mary Anne Drury Countess Buckinghamshire.

On 30th September 1780 [his mother] Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian (age 35) died in Marylebone probably as a result of childbirth.

Before 4th April 1793 the marriage of Armar Lowry-Corry 1st Earl Belmore (age 52) and [his future wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 30) was dissolved by an Act of Parliament. She remarried on 4th April 1793 to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 29). He remarried a year later.

She the daughter of John Hobart 2nd Earl Buckinghamshire (age 69) and Mary Anne Drury Countess Buckinghamshire. He the son of William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 56) and Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian.

On 1st February 1794 [his son] John Kerr 7th Marquess Lothian was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 30) and [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 31).

In 1795 [his son] John Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 31) and [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 32).

On 4th February 1795 George Edgecumbe 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe (age 74) died. His son Richard (age 30) succeeded 2nd Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 3rd Baron Edgcumbe. [his sister-in-law] Sophia Hobart Countess Mount Edgcumbe (age 27) by marriage Countess of Mount Edgcumbe.

In 1797 [his daughter] Isabella Emily Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 33) and [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 34).

In 1800 [his son] Henry Francis Charles Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 36) and [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 37).

On 9th July 1804 George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich (age 31) and [his step-daughter] Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich (age 23) were married. She the daughter of Armar Lowry-Corry 1st Earl Belmore and [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 42). He the son of John Montagu 5th Earl Sandwich (age 60) and Maria Henrietta Powlett.

On 14th July 1805 [his wife] Harriet Hobart Viscountess Belmore (age 43) died.

Before 1807 William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 43) and Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 26) were married. She the daughter of Henry Scott 3rd Duke Buccleuch (age 60) and Elizabeth Montagu Duchess Buccleuch (age 63). He the son of William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 69) and Elizabeth Fortescue 5th Marchioness Lothian. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

In 1807 [his daughter] Elizabeth Georgiana Kerr Baroness Clinton was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 43) and [his wife] Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 26).

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 11th January 1812 [his father-in-law] Henry Scott 3rd Duke Buccleuch (age 65) died. His son [his brother-in-law] Charles (age 39) succeeded 4th Duke Buccleuch, 6th Duke Queensberry, 4th Earl Doncaster, 4th Baron Scott of Tynedale. Harriet Katherine Townshend Duchess Buccleuch Duchess Queensbury (age 38) by marriage Duchess Buccleuch.

In 1814 [his son] Lieutenant Colonel Charles Lennox Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 50) and [his wife] Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 33).

On 4th January 1815 [his father] William John Kerr 5th Marquess Lothian (age 77) died. His son William (age 51) succeeded 6th Marquess Lothian. [his wife] Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 34) by marriage Marchioness Lothian.

In 1817 [his son] Mark Ralph George Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 53) and [his wife] Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 36).

In 1818 [his son] Frederick Herbert Kerr was born to William Kerr 6th Marquess Lothian (age 54) and [his wife] Harriet Scott Marchioness Lothian (age 37).

On 20th April 1819 [his brother-in-law] Charles Scott 4th Duke Buccleuch 6th Duke Queensberry (age 46) died. His son Walter succeeded 5th Duke Buccleuch, 7th Duke Queensberry, 5th Earl Doncaster, 5th Baron Scott of Tynedale.
