In 1586 Edward Phelips [aged 29] was elected MP Weymouth and Melcombe Regis.

In 1588 [his father] Thomas Phelips [aged 88] died.

In 1593 Edward Phelips [aged 36] was elected MP Penryn.

In 1597 Edward Phelips [aged 40] was elected MP Andover.

Around 1598 Edward Phelips [aged 41] commissioned the building of Montacute House.

After 27th June 1602 [his son] Robert Phelips [aged 16] and [his daughter-in-law] Brigetta Gorges [aged 18] were married. She the daughter of Thomas Gorges of Longford Castle [aged 66] and Helena Snakenbourg Marchioness Northampton [aged 53].

On 11th February 1604 Edward Phelips [aged 47] was elected MP Somerset.

On 19th March 1604 Edward Phelips [aged 47] was elected Speaker of the House of Commons which office he held until 1611.

In 1611 Edward Phelips [aged 54] was appointed Master of the Rolls which office he held until his death in 1614.

On 15th February 1613 The Memorable Masque of the Middle Temple and Lincoln's Inn was a masque performed at the Great Hall of Whitehall Palace as part of the wedding festivities.

Edward Phelips [aged 56] helped organise the Masque paying Inigo Jones [aged 39] £110 for the scenery and stage-works.

In 1614 Edward Phelips [aged 57] died.
