A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet 1746-1800

On 26th October 1746 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet was born.

From 1763 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 16] served as an ensign in the 31st Foot, a captain in the 1st Foot from 1768, and the 92nd Foot from 1779.

In 1770 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 23] and Janet Duff were married. They had eight sons and four daughters.

In 1780 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 33] was elected MP Haddingtonshire which seat he held until 1786.

In 1783 [his daughter] Janet Dalrymple was born to Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 36] and [his wife] Janet Duff. She married 8th June 1805 Robert Haldane-Duncan 1st Earl of Camperdown, son of Adam Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan and Henrietta Dundas.

In 1786 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 39] was appointed Auditor of the Excise in Scotland which office he held until his death.

On 13th February 1800 Hew Dalrymple 3rd Baronet [aged 53] died.
