On 28th May 1743 John Paulett 1st Earl Paulett [aged 75] died. His son John [aged 35] succeeded 2nd Earl Poulett, 5th Baron Poulett.

In 1764 John Paulett 2nd Earl Paulett [aged 56] died. His brother Vere [aged 54] succeeded 3rd Earl Poulett, 6th Baron Poulett.

In 1788 Vere Paulett 3rd Earl Paulett [aged 78] died. His son John [aged 31] succeeded 4th Earl Poulett, 7th Baron Poulett. Sophia Pocock Countess Paulett by marriage Countess Poulett.

On 14th January 1819 John Paulett 4th Earl Paulett [aged 62] died. His son John [aged 35] succeeded 5th Earl Poulett, 8th Baron Poulett. Charlotte Fanny Portman Countess Paulett by marriage Countess Poulett.

In 1864 John Paulett 5th Earl Paulett [aged 80] died. His nephew William [aged 36] succeeded 6th Earl Poulett, 9th Baron Poulett. Elizabeth Lavinia Newman Countess Poulett by marriage Countess Poulett.

On 20th September 1871 William Henry Paulett 6th Earl Paulett [aged 43] and Emma Sophia Johnson Countess Poulett were married six weeks after the death of his first wife Elizabeth Lavinia Newman Countess Poulett. She by marriage Countess Poulett.

On 1st March 1879 William Henry Paulett 6th Earl Paulett [aged 51] and Rosa Melville Countess Poulett were married. She by marriage Countess Poulett.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

On 22nd January 1899 William Henry Paulett 6th Earl Paulett [aged 71] died. His son William [aged 15] succeeded 7th Earl Poulett, 10th Baron Poulett.

The sixth earl's eldest son William Turnour Thomas Poulett [aged 53] claimed the title. On 27th July 1903 the House of Lords determined the dispute in favour of William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett somewhat contrary to the principle that the child of a woman born in wedlock was the child of her husband.

Report made from the Committee of Privileges:

That the Petitioner, William Turnour Thomas Poulett, claiming to be Viscount Hinton of Hinton St. George and Earl Poulett, both in the Peerage of England, hath not made out his claim to the dignities, titles, and honours of Viscount Hinton of Hinton St. George and Earl Poulett.

That the Petitioner, Rosa Countess Poulett, formerly the wife and now the widow of William Henry, sixth Earl Poulett, as a testamentary guardian of her infant son William John Lydston, claiming to be Viscount Hinton of Hinton St. George, in the county of Somerset, and seventh Earl Poulett, both in the Peerage of England, hath made out her claim that the said William John Lydston Poulett should be declared to be by right entitled to the dignities, titles, and honours of Viscount Hinton of Hinton St. George and Earl Poulett.

Read, and agreed to; and resolved and adjudged accordingly; and Resolution and Judgment to be laid before His Majesty by the Lords with White Staves.

In 1908 William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett [aged 24] and Sylvia Storey Countess Poulett [aged 18] were married. She by marriage Countess Poulett. He the son of William Henry Paulett 6th Earl Paulett and Rosa Melville Countess Poulett.

On 11th July 1918 William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett [aged 34] died in the flu pandemic. His son George [aged 9] succeeded 8th Earl Poulett, 11th Baron Poulett.

In 1935 George Poulett 8th Earl Poulett [aged 25] and Muriel Mary Swinstead aka Oriel Ross Countess Poulett [aged 27] were married. She by marriage Countess Poulett. He the son of William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett and Sylvia Storey Countess Poulett [aged 45].

In 1941 George Poulett 8th Earl Poulett [aged 31] and Olga Lorraine Lawrence Countess Poulett were married. She by marriage Countess Poulett. He the son of William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett and Sylvia Storey Countess Poulett [aged 51].

In 1968 George Poulett 8th Earl Poulett [aged 58] and Margaret Christine Ball Countess Poulett were married. She by marriage Countess Poulett. He the son of William John Lydston Poulett 7th Earl Poulett and Sylvia Storey Countess Poulett.

On 1st March 1973 George Poulett 8th Earl Poulett [aged 63] died. Earl Poulett and Baron Poulett extinct.
