Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury 1802-1869

In 1796 [his father] John Stanley 1st Baron Stanley Alderley [aged 29] and [his mother] Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Baker Holroyd 1st Earl Sheffield [aged 60] and [his grandmother] Abigail Way Countess Sheffield.

On 13th November 1802 Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury was born to John Stanley 1st Baron Stanley Alderley [aged 35] and Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley.

On 7th October 1826 Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 23] and Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 18] were married.

On 1st June 1827 [his step-father] Arthur Charles Legge [aged 26] and [his mother] Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John Baker Holroyd 1st Earl Sheffield and [his grandmother] Abigail Way Countess Sheffield. He the son of George Legge 3rd Earl Dartmouth and Frances Finch Countess Dartmouth [aged 66].

On 11th July 1827 [his son] Henry Edward Stanley 3rd Baron Stanley 2nd Baron Eddisbury was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 24] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 19]. He married 1862 Fabia San Roman of Seville.

On 29th November 1827 [his grandfather] John Thomas Stanley 6th Baronet [aged 92] died. His succeeded son [his father] John [aged 61] succeeded 7th Baronet Stanley of Alderley in Cheshire. [his mother] Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley by marriage Lady Stanley of Alderley in Cheshire.

In 1828 [his daughter] Alice Margaret Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 25] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 20]. She married 3rd February 1853 Augustus Henry Fox Pitt-Rivers and had issue.

On 3rd July 1830 [his daughter] Henrietta Blanche Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 27] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 22]. She married 23rd September 1851 David Ogilvy 10th Earl of Airlie and had issue.

On 4th May 1833 [his daughter] Mauda Alethea Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 30] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 25] at Alderley Park, Cheshire [Map].

On 30th September 1837 [his son] John Constantine Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 34] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 29].

In 1839 [his father] John Stanley 1st Baron Stanley Alderley [aged 72] was created 1st Baron Stanley Alderley. [his mother] Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley by marriage Baroness Stanley Alderley.

On 16th May 1839 [his son] Edward Lyulph Stanley 4th Baron Stanley 3rd Baron Eddisbury was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 36] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 31]. He married 6th February 1873 Mary Catherine Bell Baroness Stanley, daughter of Isaac Lowthian Bell 1st Baronet and Margaret Pattinson, and had issue.

On 16th September 1843 [his son] Algernon Charles Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 40] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 35].

Around 1844 [his daughter] Katherine Louisa Stanley was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 41] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 36]. She married 8th November 1864 her half fifth cousin once removed John Russell, son of John Russell 1st Earl Russell and Frances Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound Countess Russell, and had issue.

On 20th February 1845 [his daughter] Rosalind Frances Stanley Countess Carlisle was born to Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 42] and [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 37] at Grosvenor Crescent, Belgravia. She married 1864 George Howard 9th Earl Carlisle and had issue.

In 1848 Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 45] was created 1st Baron Eddisbury of Winnington in Cheshire. [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 40] by marriage Baroness Eddisbury of Winnington in Cheshire.

On 23rd October 1850 [his father] John Stanley 1st Baron Stanley Alderley [aged 83] died. His succeeded son Edward [aged 47] succeeded 2nd Baron Stanley Alderley, 8th Baronet Stanley of Alderley in Cheshire. [his wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 42] by marriage Baroness Stanley Alderley.

On 23rd September 1851 [his son-in-law] David Ogilvy 10th Earl of Airlie [aged 25] and [his daughter] Henrietta Blanche Stanley [aged 21] were married.

On 3rd February 1853 [his son-in-law] Augustus Henry Fox Pitt-Rivers [aged 25] and [his daughter] Alice Margaret Stanley [aged 25] were married.

In 1862 [his son] Henry Edward Stanley 3rd Baron Stanley 2nd Baron Eddisbury [aged 34] and [his daughter-in-law] Fabia San Roman of Seville were married. The first of three ceremonies of which the first two transpired to be bigamous.

In 1863 [his mother] Maria Josepha Holroyd Baroness Stanley Alderley died.

In 1864 [his son-in-law] George Howard 9th Earl Carlisle [aged 20] and [his daughter] Rosalind Frances Stanley Countess Carlisle [aged 18] were married.

On 8th November 1864 [his son-in-law] John Russell [aged 21] and Katherine Louisa Stanley [aged 20] were married. They had four children, including a stillborn daughter. He the son of John Russell 1st Earl Russell [aged 72] and Frances Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound Countess Russell [aged 48]. They were half fifth cousin once removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 16th June 1869 Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury [aged 66] died. His succeeded son Henry [aged 41] succeeded 3rd Baron Stanley Alderley, 2nd Baron Eddisbury of Winnington in Cheshire, 9th Baronet Stanley of Alderley in Cheshire.

On 16th February 1895 [his former wife] Henrietta Maria Dillon Baroness Stanley Alderley and Eddisbury [aged 87] died.

St Mary's Church, Nether Alderley [Map]. The chancel contains memorials to the Lords Stanley of Alderley. The memorial to [his father] John Stanley 1st Baron Stanley Alderley contains his effigy dressed in peer's robes lying under a canopy with his hand on a book, dated 1856 and by Richard Westmacott. On the other side of the chancel is a memorial to his son Edward John Stanley 2nd Baron Stanley and 1st Baron Eddisbury, his effigy holding a scroll in his hand and with a dog at his feet. Engraved in brass on the side of the memorial are the figures of his widow and children. Lady Stanley is seated in the middle with their four surviving sons on her right, five surviving daughters on her left and three children who had died at a young age at her knee and on her lap. A memorial tablet to John Constantine Stanley, who died in 1878, is by Joseph Boehm.[12] The chancel contains a monument to Rev. Edward Shipton, rector of the church from 1625 to 1630.
