On 4th June 1751 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon was born.
On 19th November 1772 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 21] and Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon [aged 17] were married at Blackshields, Scotland, having eloped the previous day. The marriage was officially blessed two months later at St Nicholas Church, Newcastle upon Tyne [Map]. Her family objected to the marriage although they were eventually reconciled. He gave up the church and turned to law instead, being called to the bar in 1776.
In 1774 [his son] John Scott was born to John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 22] and [his wife] Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon [aged 19].
In 1782 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 30] was elected MP Weobley.
In 1788 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 36] was appointed Solicitor General.
In 1793 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 41] was appointed Attorney General.
In 1793 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 41] was elected Fellow of the Royal Society.
In 1799 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 47] was appointed Chief Justice of the Common Pleas.

The King has been pleased to grant unto the Right Honorable Sir John Scott [aged 48], Knight, late His Majesty's Attorney-General, and to the Heirs Male of his Body lawfully begotten, the Dignity of a Baron of the Kingdom of Great Britain, by the Name, Style, and Title of Baron Eldon, of Eldon, in the County Palatine of Durham. Anne Boleyn. Her Life as told by Lancelot de Carle's 1536 Letter.
In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

On 14th April 1801 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 49] was appointed Lord Chancellor which office he held until 7th February 1806.
In 1805 [his son] John Scott [aged 31] died.
On 1st April 1807 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 55] was appointed Lord Chancellor which office he held until 12th April 1827.

The King has been pleased to direct letters patent to be passed under the Great Seal, for granting the dignities of a Viscount and Earl of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to John Baron Elton [aged 70], Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, and the heirs, male of his body lawfully begotten, by the names, stiles, and titles of Viscount Encombe of Encombe, in the county of Dorset, and Earl of Eldon, in the county palatine of Durham. [[his wife] Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon [aged 66] by marriage Countess Eldon.]
Before 11th July 1826 [his son-in-law] Reverend Edward Bankes [aged 32] and Frances Jane Scott were married. She the daughter of John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 75] and Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon [aged 71].
On 28th June 1831 [his wife] Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon [aged 76] died. She was buried at the Old Church, Kingston.
In 1833 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 81] replace the original parish church with what is now known as the Old Church, Kingston. It was designed by his son-in-law, George Repton, and largely followed the ground plan of the replaced chapel, embodying most of the old building material. The church was surrounded by many graves.
On 13th January 1838 John Scott 1st Earl Eldon [aged 86] died; he left an estate of £2.3 million, a vast amount at the time. He was buried at Old Church, Kingston. His grandson John [aged 32] succeeded 2nd Earl Eldon, 2nd Viscount Encoumbe of Encombe in Dorest, 2nd Baron Eldon of Eldon in County Durham. Louisa Duncombe Countess Eldon [aged 30] by marriage Countess Eldon.
[his daughter] Frances Jane Scott was born to John Scott 1st Earl Eldon and Elizabeth Surtees Countess of Eldon. She married before 11th July 1826 Reverend Edward Bankes and had issue.
