The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy

The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Originally penned in Latin by the monk William of Jumièges shortly before 1060 and later expanded at the behest of William the Conqueror, the work chronicles the deeds, politics, battles, and leadership of the Norman dukes, especially William’s own claim to the English throne. In 1703 [his father] William Byron 4th Baron Byron [aged 32] and Mary Egerton Baroness Byron [aged 26] were married. She by marriage Baroness Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire. She the daughter of John Egerton 3rd Earl Bridgewater and Jane Paulet Countess Bridgewater [aged 47].

On 19th December 1706 [his father] William Byron 4th Baron Byron [aged 36] and Frances Wilhelmina Bentinck Baroness Byron [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Baroness Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire. She the daughter of William Bentinck 1st Earl of Portland [aged 57] and Anne Villiers Countess Portland. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 3rd December 1720 William Byron 4th Baron Byron [aged 50] and Frances Berkeley Baroness Byron [aged 17] were married. She by marriage Baroness Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire. His third marriage. Arranged by her father William Berkeley 4th Baron Berkeley [aged 57] who described the age difference as being "disproportionate". The difference in their ages was 33 years.

On 5th November 1722 William Byron 5th Baron Byron was born to William Byron 4th Baron Byron [aged 52] and Frances Berkeley Baroness Byron [aged 19].

On 8th August 1736 [his father] William Byron 4th Baron Byron [aged 66] died. His son William [aged 13] succeeded 5th Baron Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire.

In 1743 [his brother-in-law] Henry Howard 4th Earl Carlisle [aged 48] and [his sister] Isabella Byron Countess Carlisle [aged 21] were married. She by marriage Countess Carlisle. The difference in their ages was 27 years. He the son of Charles Howard 3rd Earl Carlisle and Anne Capell Countess Carlisle [aged 69]. They were fourth cousins.

Before 27th October 1749 William Byron 5th Baron Byron [aged 26] and Elizabeth Shaw were married.

On 27th October 1749 [his son] William Byron was born to William Byron 5th Baron Byron [aged 26] and [his wife] Elizabeth Shaw. He married before 22nd June 1776 his first cousin Juliana Elizabeth Byron.

In 1759 [his mother] Frances Berkeley Baroness Byron [aged 55] died.

In 1763 William Byron 5th Baron Byron [aged 40] was appointed Master of the Staghounds.

In 1774 William Byron 5th Baron Byron [aged 51] contested MP Morpeth on the Carlisle interest. He was defeated, but seated as Member of Parliament on petition on 28 January 1775. There is no record of any vote or speech by him in the eighteen months he was in Parliament.

Before 22nd June 1776 [his son] William Byron [aged 26] and [his daughter-in-law] Juliana Elizabeth Byron were married having eloped to Gretna Green, Dumfrieshire. They were first cousins.

Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 22nd January 1795 [his sister] Isabella Byron Countess Carlisle [aged 73] died.

On 19th May 1798 William Byron 5th Baron Byron [aged 75] was killed in action by cannon fire whilst fighting in Corsica. His great nephew George [aged 10] succeeded 6th Baron Byron of Rochdale in Lancashire.
