On 23rd July 1423 [her father] Arnold Egmont Duke Guelders (age 13) and [her mother] Catherine La Marck (age 6) were married. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Adolph La Marck I Duke Cleves (age 49) and [her grandmother] Marie Valois Duchess Cleves (age 30).

Around 1434 Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland was born to [her father] Arnold Egmont Duke Guelders (age 23) and [her mother] Catherine La Marck (age 16) at Grave.

Assassination of King James I of Scotland

On 21st February 1437 King James I of Scotland (age 42) was assassinated at Blackfriars. He was buried at Carthusian Charterhouse, Perth. His son [her future husband] James (age 6) succeeded II King Scotland. His wife, Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland (age 33), managed to escape.

Douglas Black Dinner

On 24th November 1440 William Crichton 1st Lord Crichton arranged a dinner of reconciliation at the Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle. During the course of the dinner the young brothers William Douglas 3rd Duke Touraine (age 16) and David Douglas (age 10) was beheaded in front of the young [her future husband] King James II of Scotland (age 10).

On 3rd July 1449 King James II of Scotland (age 18) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 15) were married at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. She the daughter of Arnold Egmont Duke Guelders (age 38) and Catherine La Marck (age 32). He the son of King James I of Scotland and Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 2 grandson of King Edward III of England.

On 3rd July 1449 Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 15) was crowned Queen Consort Scotland.

On 19th May 1450 [her son] Unamed Stewart was born to [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 19) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 16). He died the same day. He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Between 1451 and 15th June 1452 Robert Boyd 1st Lord Boyd (age 31) was created 1st Lord Boyd by [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 20). On 15th June 1452 King James II of Scotland confirmed the charter of Robert Boyd, Lord of Kilmarnock and of Dalry, conveying one-third of the lands of Lynn in Dalry to Robert Boyd [indweller] of Lynn. He took his seat in Parliament on 18th July 1454.

On 22nd February 1452 William Douglas 8th Earl Douglas 2nd Earl Avondale (age 27) was murdered by [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 21) at Edinburgh Castle [Map] for refusing to desist from conspiring with Alexander Lindsay 4th Earl Crawford (age 29). His brother James (age 26) succeeded 9th Earl Douglas, 3rd Earl Avondale.

1452 Battle of Brechin

On 18th May 1452 the Battle of Brechin was fought between supporters of [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 21) and his rellious nobility including the Black Douglases. Alexander Gordon 1st Earl Huntley defeated the rebels led by Alexander Lindsay 4th Earl Crawford (age 29) on behalf on the King. John Lindsay (age 29), and the brothers William Gordon and Henry Gordon, were killed.

On 13th May 1453 [her daughter] Mary Stewart Countess Arran was born to [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 22) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 19) at Stirling Castle [Map]. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Edward III of England. She married (1) before 26th April 1467 Thomas Boyd 1st Earl Arran and had issue (2) before 12th July 1474 James Hamilton 1st Lord Hamilton and had issue.

Around 1454 [her son] Alexander Stewart 1st Duke Albany was born to [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 23) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 20). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England. He married (1) before 1477 his second cousin Catherine Sinclair Duchess Albany, daughter of William Sinclair 3rd Earl Orkney 1st Earl Caithness and Elizabeth Douglas Countess Buchan and Orkney, and had issue (2) 16th January 1479 Anne de la Tour Auvergne Duchess Albany, daughter of Bertrand Auvergne VI Count Auvergne and Louise de La Trémoïlle, and had issue.

Around 1455 [her son] David Stewart was born to [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 24) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 21). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In August 1455 George Crichton 1st Earl Caithness (age 46) died. Earl Caithness reverted to the Crown following a disagreement between George Crichton 1st Earl Caithness and his son James Crichton from inheriting. James Crichton had imprisoned his father in Blackness Castle; he was rescued by [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 24).

Around 1456 [her son] John Stewart 1st Earl of Mar was born to [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 25) and Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 22). He a great x 3 grandson of King Edward III of England.

In 1457 [her brother-in-law] John Stewart 1st Earl Atholl (age 17) was created 1st Earl Atholl.

In 1458 George Gordon 2nd Earl Huntley (age 2) and [her sister-in-law] Anabella Stewart (age 22) were married. She the daughter of King James I of Scotland and Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland. He the son of Alexander Gordon 1st Earl Huntley and Elizabeth Crichton Countess Huntley (age 47).

Around 1459 [her brother-in-law] John Stewart 1st Earl Atholl (age 19) and Margaret "Fair Lady of Galloway" Douglas Countess (age 24) were married. She by marriage Countess Atholl. The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

1460 Siege of Roxburgh

On 3rd August 1460 [her husband] King James II of Scotland (age 29) was killed accidentally whilst besieging Roxburgh Castle when a cannon exploded and he was hit by debris. He was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood. His son [her son] James (age 9) succeeded III King Scotland.

William Douglas 3rd Lord Drumlanrig (age 20) was present.

1462 Siege of Norham Castle

Around June 1462 a Scottish and Lancastrian force, including [her son] King James III of Scotland (age 10), his mother Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 28), King Henry VI of England and II of France (age 40) and his wife Margaret of Anjou Queen Consort England (age 32), laid siege to Norham Castle [Map]. They held Norham for eighteen days until a force led by Richard "Kingmaker" Neville Earl Warwick, 6th Earl Salisbury (age 33) and his brother John Neville 1st Marquess Montagu (age 31) advanced to Norham Castle [Map] at which time the Scottish and Lancastrian force fled in panic pursued by the Yorkist army. Margaret of Anjou Queen Consort England and her son Edward of Westminster Prince of Wales (age 8) escaped to Berwick on Tweed, Northumberland [Map] and then to the continent. King Henry VI of England and II of France remained in Scotland - he and his wife never saw each other again.

In 1463 [her brother] Adolf Egmont 2nd Duke Guelders (age 24) and [her sister-in-law] Catherine Bourbon Duchess Guelders (age 23) were married. She by marriage Duchess Guelders. She the daughter of Charles Bourbon I Duke Bourbon and Agnes Valois Duchess Bourbon (age 56). He the son of [her father] Arnold Egmont Duke Guelders (age 52) and [her mother] Catherine La Marck (age 45). They were first cousin once removed. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward I of England.

On 1st December 1463 Mary of Guelders Queen Consort Scotland (age 29) died at Roxburgh Castle, Roxburgh. She was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Holyrood.
