There have been three creations of Baron Rivers:

1st. 9th May 1448. Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers. Extinct. 6th March 1491.

2nd. 14th May 1776. George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers. Extinct. 20th July 1828.

3rd. 16th March 1802. George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers. Extinct. 3rd March 1880.

Baron Rivers 1st Creation 1448

Summary

9th May 1448. 1st. Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers [aged 43] created.

12th August 1469. 2nd. Son Anthony Woodville 2nd Earl Rivers [aged 29] succeeded. See Execution of the Woodvilles.

25th June 1483. 3rd. Brother Richard Woodville 3rd Earl Rivers [aged 30] succeeded. See Execution of the Yorkists and their Affinity.

6th March 1491. 3rd. Richard Woodville 3rd Earl Rivers extinct.

On 9th May 1448 Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers [aged 43] was created 1st Baron Rivers by King Henry VI of England and II of France [aged 26]. Jacquetta of Luxembourg Duchess Bedford [aged 33] by marriage Baroness Rivers.

On 12th August 1469 Woodvilles father and son were beheaded at Kenilworth Castle [Map] by supporters of Richard "Kingmaker" Neville Earl Warwick, 6th Earl Salisbury [aged 40].

Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers [aged 64] was beheaded. His son Anthony [aged 29] succeeded 2nd Earl Rivers, 2nd Baron Rivers. Elizabeth Scales Countess Rivers by marriage Countess Rivers.

John Woodville [aged 24] was beheaded.

On 25th June 1483 supporters of the Woodvilles were executed at Pontefract Castle [Map]..

Anthony Woodville 2nd Earl Rivers [aged 43] was beheaded. His brother Richard [aged 30] succeeded 3rd Earl Rivers, 3rd Baron Rivers.

Richard Grey [aged 26] and Thomas Vaughan [aged 73] were beheaded.

On 6th March 1491 Richard Woodville 3rd Earl Rivers [aged 38] died. Earl Rivers, Baron Rivers extinct.

Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire 2nd Creation 1776

The London Gazette 11665. St. James's, May 14 [1776]. The King [aged 37] has been pleased to order a Writ to be issued under the Great Seal of Great Britain for summoning Francis Osborne, Esq; commonly called Marquess of Carmarthen, up to the House of Peers, by the Stile and Title of Baron Olborne of Kiveton in the County of York.

The King has been pleased to grant unto her Grace the Dutchess of Argyll [aged 42] the Dignity of a Baroness of the Kingdom of Great Britain, by the Name, Stile, and Title of Baroness Hamilton, of Hameldon in the County of Leicester; and the Dignity of a Baron to her Heirs Male.

The King has also been pleased to grant the Dignity of a Baron of the Kingdom of Great Britain unto the following Gentlemen, and their Heirs Male; viz.

Alexander Hume Campbell,.Esq; commonly called Lord Polwarth, by the Name, Stile, and Title of Baron Hume of Berwick.

On 7th April 1821 George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers [aged 99] died. His son George [aged 69] succeeded 2nd Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire, 2nd Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

On 20th July 1828 George Pitt 2nd Baron Rivers [aged 76] died in Grosvenor Place, Belgravia. His nephew Horace [aged 50] succeeded 3rd Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire. Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire extinct.

On 2nd February 1833 George Pitt-Rivers 4th Baron Rivers [aged 22] and Susan Georgiana Leveson-Gower Baroness Rivers [aged 23] were married at British Embassy, Paris. She by marriage Baroness Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire. She the daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Granville [aged 59] and Harriet Cavendish Countess Granville [aged 47].

Annals of the six Kings of England by Nicholas Trivet

On 16th March 1802 George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers [aged 80] was created 1st Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire with special remainder, in default of male issue, to his brother Sir William and his issue male, failing which to his daughter Louisa's son Horace Beckford [aged 24] and his issue male. The latter condition was effected on the death of his son George Pitt 2nd Baron Rivers [aged 50].

On 7th April 1821 George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers [aged 99] died. His son George [aged 69] succeeded 2nd Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire, 2nd Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

On 20th July 1828 George Pitt 2nd Baron Rivers [aged 76] died in Grosvenor Place, Belgravia. His nephew Horace [aged 50] succeeded 3rd Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire. Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye in Hampshire extinct.

On 23rd January 1831 Horace Beckford aka Pitt-Rivers 3rd Baron Rivers [aged 53] drowned himself in The Serpentine, Hyde Park having reneged on a pledge to never play cards again. His son George [aged 20] succeeded 4th Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

On 28th April 1866 George Pitt-Rivers 4th Baron Rivers [aged 55] died. His son Henry [aged 17] succeeded 5th Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

On 17th March 1867 Henry Peter Pitt-Rivers 5th Baron Rivers [aged 17] died from lung disease in Torquay, Devon. His uncle George [aged 52] succeeded 6th Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.

On 3rd March 1880 George Pitt-Rivers 6th Baron Rivers [aged 65] died at 23 Wilton Crescent, Belgravia. On 11th May 1880 he was buried at St Mary's Church Steepleton Iwerne, Dorset. Baron Rivers of Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire extinct.
