Before 1662 [his father] Charles Shelley 2nd Baronet and [his mother] Elizabeth Weston were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Benjamin Weston and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Sheldon Countess Anglesey [aged 53].
Around 1662 John Shelley 3rd Baronet was born to Charles Shelley 2nd Baronet and Elizabeth Weston.
Around 1666 [his mother] Elizabeth Weston died.
After 2nd June 1666 [his father] Charles Shelley 2nd Baronet and [his step-mother] Mary Gifford [aged 36] were married. His son John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 4] subsequently married her daughter [his future wife] Winifred Neville Lady Shelley.
In 1681 [his father] Charles Shelley 2nd Baronet died. His son John [aged 19] succeeded 3rd Baronet Shelley of Mitchelgrove in Sussex.
Before 15th June 1685 John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 23] and Winifred Neville Lady Shelley were married. She by marriage Lady Shelley of Mitchelgrove in Sussex. His father Charles Shelley 2nd Baronet and her mother Mary Gifford [aged 55] were married meaning her step-father became her father-in-law.
On 15th June 1685 [his daughter] Frances Shelley Viscountess Fitzwilliam was born to John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 23] and [his wife] Winifred Neville Lady Shelley. She married 26th February 1703 Richard Fitzwilliam 5th Viscount Fitzwilliam, son of Thomas Fitzwilliam 4th Viscount Fitzwilliam, and had issue.
Before 24th May 1687 [his wife] Winifred Neville Lady Shelley died.
On 24th May 1687 John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 25] and Mary Gage Lady Shelley were married. She by marriage Lady Shelley of Mitchelgrove in Sussex.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

Around 1690 [his daughter] Mary Shelley was born to John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 28] and [his wife] Mary Gage Lady Shelley. She married 1712 John Lawson 3rd Baronet, son of Henry Lawson 2nd Baronet, and had issue.
On 5th March 1692 [his son] John Shelley 4th Baronet was born to John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 30] and [his wife] Mary Gage Lady Shelley. He married 1. 21st May 1717 Catherine Scawen Lady Shelley 2. 16th March 1727 Margaret Pelham Lady Shelley, daughter of Thomas Pelham 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton and Grace Holles, and had issue.
On 26th February 1703 [his son-in-law] Richard Fitzwilliam 5th Viscount Fitzwilliam [aged 26] and [his daughter] Frances Shelley Viscountess Fitzwilliam [aged 17] were married.
On 25th April 1703 John Shelley 3rd Baronet [aged 41] died. His son John [aged 11] succeeded 4th Baronet Shelley of Mitchelgrove in Sussex.
Before 1722 [his former wife] Mary Gage Lady Shelley died.
