On 10th April 1502 [his father] King Frederick I of Denmark [aged 30] and [his mother] Anna of Brandenburg [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] John "Cicero" Hohenzollern Elector Brandenburg and [his grandmother] Margaret of Thuringia. He the son of Christian I King of Denmark and Dorothea of Brandenburg. They were half second cousins.
On 12th August 1503 Christian III King of Denmark was born to King Frederick I of Denmark [aged 31] and Anna of Brandenburg [aged 15].
On 3rd May 1514 [his mother] Anna of Brandenburg [aged 26] died.
On 9th October 1518 [his father] King Frederick I of Denmark [aged 47] and [his step-mother] Sophie of Pomerania Queen Consort of Denmark and Sweden [aged 20] were married. The difference in their ages was 26 years. He the son of [his grandfather] Christian I King of Denmark and [his grandmother] Dorothea of Brandenburg.
In 1523 Christian II King of Denmark II King Norway [aged 41] Abdicated following pressure from his nobility. His succeeded uncle [his father] Frederick [aged 51] succeeded I King of Denmark.
On 29th October 1525 Christian III King of Denmark [aged 22] and Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 14] were married. He the son of King Frederick I of Denmark [aged 54] and Anna of Brandenburg.
On 22nd November 1532 [his daughter] Anna Oldenburg was born to Christian III King of Denmark [aged 29] and [his wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 21]. She married 7th October 1548 her third cousin once removed Augustus Wettin Elector of Saxony and had issue.
On 10th April 1533 [his father] King Frederick I of Denmark [aged 61] died. His succeeded son Christian [aged 29] succeeded III King of Denmark.
On 1st July 1534 [his son] Frederick II King of Denmark was born to Christian III King of Denmark [aged 30] and [his wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 23]. He married 20th July 1572 his second cousin once removed Sophie Mecklenburg-Schwerin Queen Consort Denmark and had issue.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 26th August 1540 [his daughter] Magnus Oldenburg was born to Christian III King of Denmark [aged 37] and [his wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 29]..
On 25th March 1545 [his son] John "Younger" Oldenburg Duke Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg was born to Christian III King of Denmark [aged 41] and [his wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 33].. He married (1) 19th August 1568 his sixth cousin Elisabeth of Brunswick-Grubenhagen and had issue (2) 14th February 1588 Agnes Hedwig of Anhalt and had issue.
On 29th June 1546 [his daughter] Dorothea Oldenburg Duchess Brunswick-Lüneburg was born to Christian III King of Denmark [aged 42] and [his wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 35] at Kolding. She married 12th October 1561 her half sixth cousin William "Younger" Welf Duke Brunswick-Lüneburg.
On 7th October 1548 [his son-in-law] Augustus Wettin Elector of Saxony [aged 22] and Anna Oldenburg [aged 15] were married at Torgau. She the daughter of Christian III King of Denmark [aged 45] and Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 37]. They were third cousin once removed.
On 1st January 1559 Christian III King of Denmark [aged 55] died. His succeeded son Frederick [aged 24] succeeded II King of Denmark.
On 7th October 1571 [his former wife] Dorothea of Saxe Lauenburg Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 60] died.
