They were third cousins.
Around August 1598 Ludovic Stewart 2nd Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond [aged 23] and Jean Campbell Duchess Lennox [aged 45] were married. She by marriage Duchess Lennox. The difference in their ages was 21 years; she, unusually, being older than him. He the son of Esme Stewart 1st Duke Lennox and Catherine Balsac Duchess Lennox. They were second cousin once removed.
On 16th June 1621 Ludovic Stewart 2nd Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond [aged 46] and Frances Howard Duchess Lennox and Richmond [aged 42] were married. She by marriage Duchess Lennox. He the son of Esme Stewart 1st Duke Lennox and Catherine Balsac Duchess Lennox. They were fifth cousin once removed.
On 16th February 1624 Ludovic Stewart 2nd Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond [aged 49] died. He was buried at Westminster Abbey [Map]. Duke Richmond and Earl Newcastle upon Tyne extinct. His brother Esmé [aged 45] succeeded 3rd Duke Lennox. Katherine Clifton Duchess Lennox [aged 32] by marriage Duchess Lennox.
On 30th July 1624 Esmé Stewart 3rd Duke Lennox [aged 45] died. His son James [aged 12] succeeded 4th Duke Lennox, 2nd Earl March.
On 3rd August 1637 James Stewart 4th Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond [aged 25] and Mary Villiers Duchess of Lennox and Richmond [aged 15] were married. She by marriage Duchess Lennox. She the daughter of George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham and Katherine Manners Duchess Buckingham [aged 35]. He the son of Esmé Stewart 3rd Duke Lennox and Katherine Clifton Duchess Lennox [aged 45]. They were half fifth cousin once removed.
On 30th March 1655 James Stewart 4th Duke Lennox 1st Duke Richmond [aged 42] died. His son Esmé [aged 6] succeeded 2nd Duke Richmond, 5th Duke Lennox, 3rd Earl March, 4th Baron Clifton of Leighton Bromswold in Huntingdonshire.
On 10th August 1660 Esmé Stewart 2nd Duke Richmond 5th Duke Lennox [aged 11] died of smallpox at Paris [Map]. He was buried in on 04 Sep 1660 in the Richmond Vault, Westminster Abbey. His first cousin Charles [aged 21] succeeded 6th Duke Lennox, 3rd Duke Richmond, 4th Earl March. Elizabeth Rogers Duchess Richmond by marriage Duchess Richmond. His sister Mary [aged 9] succeeded 5th Baroness Clifton of Leighton Bromswold in Huntingdonshire.
In March 1667 Frances Teresa Stewart Duchess Lennox and Richmond [aged 19] by marriage Duchess Lennox.
In March 1667 Charles Stewart 6th Duke Lennox 3rd Duke Richmond [aged 27] and Frances Teresa Stewart Duchess Lennox and Richmond [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Duchess Lennox, Duchess Richmond.
In December 1672 Charles Stewart 6th Duke Lennox 3rd Duke Richmond [aged 33] drowned at Elsinor. Duke Lennox, Duke Richmond, Earl March, Earl Lichfield. Baron Stuart extinct. His sister Katherine [aged 32] succeeded 7th Baroness Clifton of Leighton Bromswold in Huntingdonshire.
