Charles Henry Maynard 1814-1865

In January 1814 Charles Henry Maynard was born to Charles Henry Maynard 3rd Viscount Maynard [aged 27].

On 10th March 1824 Charles Maynard 2nd Viscount Maynard [aged 71] died. His nephew [his father] Charles [aged 37] succeeded 3rd Viscount Maynard of Easton Lodge in Essex, 3rd Baron Maynard of Much Easton in Essex, 6th Baronet Maynard of Walthamstow in Essex.

On 16th January 1840 Charles Henry Maynard [aged 26] and Frances Julia Murray [aged 18] were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square.

On 14th September 1846 John Murray 5th Duke Atholl [aged 68] died at Greville Place St John's Wood. His nephew [his brother-in-law] George [aged 31] succeeded 6th Duke Atholl, 7th Marquess Atholl, 8th Earl Atholl, 9th Earl Tullibardine, 11th Baron Strange Knockin.

Before 13th October 1860 Charles Henry Maynard [aged 46] and Frances Julia Murray [aged 38] were divorced.

On 13th October 1860 Charles Henry Maynard [aged 46] and Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy [aged 21] were married. The difference in their ages was 25 years.

On 10th December 1861 [his daughter] Frances Evelyn "Daisy" Maynard Countess Warwick was born to Charles Henry Maynard [aged 47] and [his wife] Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy [aged 22] at 27 Berkeley Square, Mayfair. She married 30th April 1881 her fourth cousin once removed Francis Greville 5th Earl Warwick 5th Earl Brooke, son of George Greville 4th Earl Warwick 4th Earl Brooke and Anne Charteris Countess Warwick, and had issue.

On 16th January 1864 [his former brother-in-law] George Augustus Frederick Murray 6th Duke Atholl [aged 49] died. His son John [aged 23] succeeded 7th Duke Atholl, 8th Marquess Atholl, 9th Earl Atholl, 10th Earl Tullibardine, 12th Baron Strange Knockin, 3rd Baron Glenlyon of Glenlyon in Perthshire.

On 14th February 1864 [his daughter] Blanche Maynard was born to Charles Henry Maynard [aged 50]. She married 31st August 1886 Algernon Charles Gordon-Lennox, son of Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond and Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond, and had issue.

On 2nd January 1865 Charles Henry Maynard [aged 51] died.

Death of Colonel Maynard – Colonel the Hon. Chas. Henry Maynard, only son of Viscount Maynard, died on Monday, at his residence in Hill street, Berkeley-square. The lamented gentleman was born in 1814, and married 16th January, 1840, Lady Francis Julia Murray, second daughter of the James first Lord Glenlyon, and sister to the late Duke of Athole, who died in 1858. He married, second, in 1860, Miss Fitzroy, second daughter of Mr. Henry Fitzroy, of Salcey Lawn, Northamptonshire, by whom he leaves issue two infant daughters. The deceased was formerly in the Royal Horse Guards, and held the post of colonel in the Essex Militia, and was also a deputy-lieutenant of the county.

Little Easton. – Funeral of the Hon. Colonel Maynard [deceased]. – On Saturday the remains of the lamented only son and heir apparent of the worthy and respected Lord-Lieutenant of the county, the Right Hon. Viscount Maynard, were consigned to their last resting place in the family mausoleum at Little Easton church [Map]. The body, in a costly coffins covered with black cloth and massive gilt ornaments and handles, was brought down by railway in the course of the forenoon to Bishop Stortford, and thence in a heavily plumed hearse, drawn by four horses, to Easton Lodge, followed by two mourning coaches, and was punctual to the appointed time under the conduct of the undertaker, Mr. Fox, of Bishopsgate-street. The mourning followers were the Hon. [his former wife] Mrs. Maynard [aged 25], widow of the deceased; [his former father-in-law] H. Fitzroy [aged 58], Esq., her father; [his former brother-in-law] W. Fitzroy [aged 27], Esq., her brother; G. Ives, C. Ives, and O. H. Capel, Esqrs., nephews of the deceased; F. Sitwell, Esq., H. Cheffins, Esq., agent to his lordship; W. B. Clapham, Esq., family surgeon; Mr. Moffat, head gardener, and Mr. Bridgeman, park ranger. Alighting from the carriages, the mournful procession was met at the churchyard by the Rev. V. Knox Child, rector of Little Easton, who read the burial service most impressively in the church and at the entrance to the mausoleum. There was a very large and respectable attendance of his lordship's tenantry and tradespeople, as well as humbler neighbors from Dunmow, Great Easton, Broxted, &c., who testified their respect by the utmost silent attention and decorum during the whole of the funeral solemnities. The deceased gentleman was laid in front of the coffin of his mother, the Viscountess, who died in October, 1857.

On 8th November 1866 Robert St Clair-Erskine 4th Earl of Rosslyn [aged 33] and [his former wife] Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy [aged 27] were married.

On 4th November 1868 Frances Julia Murray [aged 47] died at Shern Hall, Walthamstow.

We regret to find recorded in our obituary the death of Lady Frances Maynard, the wife of Colonel Maynard, of Shern Hall, Walthamstow. Her ladyship (who was the daughter [niece] of the late Duke of Atholl) expired on Thursday afternoon, November 4th, having been in a delicate state of health for a few weeks, but the fatal termination was unexpected. The deceased lady was of a most amiable disposition, and her loss will be deeply deplored.

Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy: On 22nd August 1839 she was born to Henry Fitzroy in Salcey Lawn, Northamptonshire and Jane Elizabeth Beauclerk. On 13th October 1860 Charles Henry Maynard and she were married. The difference in their ages was 25 years. On 8th November 1866 Robert St Clair-Erskine 4th Earl of Rosslyn and she were married.
