In December 1362 [his father] William Jülich II Duke Jülich [aged 35] and [his mother] Marie Guelders Duchess Jülich were married. She by marriage Duchess Jülich. They had three children. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Reginald "Black" I Duke Guelders and [his grandmother] Sophia Berthout Berthout. He the son of William Jülich I Duke Jülich. They were third cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Stephen I England. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Stephen I England.

On 5th March 1364 William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich was born to William Jülich II Duke Jülich [aged 37] and Marie Guelders Duchess Jülich.

On 4th December 1371 [his uncle] Reginald II Duke Guelders [aged 38] died without issue. The Duke Guelders title passed to his sisters and their husband's resulting in a war of succession with William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich [aged 7], son of his sister [his mother] Marie Guelders Duchess Jülich eventually succeeding.

In 1377 William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich [aged 12] succeeded 3rd Duke Guelders.

In 1379 William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich [aged 14] and Katherine Wittelsbach Duchess Guelders [aged 17] were married. She by marriage Duchess Guelders, Duchess Guelders. She the daughter of Albert Wittelsbach I Duke Lower Bavaria [aged 42] and Margaret of Silesia Duchesa Lowwer Bavaria [aged 37]. He the son of William Jülich II Duke Jülich [aged 52] and Marie Guelders Duchess Jülich. They were fourth cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

In 1389 [his brother-in-law] John "Pitiless" Wittelsbach II Duke Bavaria Straubing [aged 14] was appointed Bishop of Liège.

On 24th April 1390 Albert Habsburg IV Duke Austria [aged 12] and [his sister-in-law] Joanna Sophia Wittelsbach Duchess Austria [aged 17] were married at Vienna [Map]. She by marriage Duchess Austria. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] Albert Wittelsbach I Duke Lower Bavaria [aged 53] and [his mother-in-law] Margaret of Silesia Duchesa Lowwer Bavaria. He the son of Albert "With the Pigtail" Habsburg III Duke Austria [aged 40] and Beatrix Hohenzollern Duchess Austria [aged 28]. They were third cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

Westminster Chronicle. On that day [4th May] the Duke of Guelders [aged 26] came to London. The next day the king received him with a cheerful face, entertained him splendidly at a banquet, and served him with immense pleasures, dances, and various joyful instrumental music; and he took care to honour him in every way. Then, on the 11th day of May, having heard of the death of Lord Ralph [deceased], Lord Basset, who was one of the knights of the Garter, the lord king immediately appointed the aforesaid Duke of Guelders in his place. The said duke stayed here for almost a month and was graciously received by all the leading men of England. At length, having obtained leave from the king and the other lords of the country, he returned to his own lands with many gifts and presents.

On 13th December 1393 [his father] William Jülich II Duke Jülich [aged 66] died. His son William [aged 29] succeeded 3rd Duke Jülich.

On 21st January 1397 [his brother-in-law] Albert Wittelsbach II Duke Bavaria Straubing [aged 28] died.

Around 1399 William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich [aged 34] was appointed 81st Knight of the Garter by King Richard II of England [aged 31].

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

In 1400 [his wife] Katherine Wittelsbach Duchess Guelders [aged 38] died.

On 16th February 1402 William Jülich 3rd Duke Guelders 3rd Duke Jülich [aged 37] died at Arnhem [Map]. His brother Reinald [aged 37] succeeded 4th Duke Guelders, 3rd Duke Jülich.
