Around 1786, following the death of his two brothers Daniel and Henry, Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood [aged 73] took control of the family wealth, to which he added 22 slave plantations, more than 27,000 acres and 2,947 slaves in the British West Indies.

On 25th January 1795 Edwin Lascelles 1st Baron Harewood [aged 82] died. Baron Harewood of Harewood in Yorkshire extinct. His vast wealth and estates, including his holdings in Barbados were inherited by his first cousin Edward Lascelles [aged 54], subsequently Earl of Harewood.
In 1813 [his former wife] Jane Coleman Baroness Harewood [aged 82] died.
