Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton 1545-1581

In 1533 [his father] Thomas Wriothesley 1st Earl of Southampton [aged 27] and [his mother] Jane Cheney Countess Southampton [aged 24] were married.

On 24th April 1545 Henry Wriothesley was born to Thomas Wriothesley 1st Earl of Southampton [aged 39] and Jane Cheney Countess Southampton [aged 36]. On 24th April 1545 he was christened at St Andrew's Church, Holborn [Map]. His godparents were Henry VIII [aged 53], Henry's daughter Mary Tudor [aged 29] and Charles Brandon 1st Duke Suffolk [aged 61].

On 30th July 1550 [his father] Thomas Wriothesley 1st Earl of Southampton [aged 44] died. He was buried on 4th August 1550 at St Andrew's Church, Holborn [Map]. His son Henry [aged 5] succeeded 2nd Earl of Southampton.

Before 6th October 1573 Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton [aged 28] and Mary Browne Countess Southampton [aged 21] were married. She by marriage Countess of Southampton. He the son of Thomas Wriothesley 1st Earl of Southampton and Jane Cheney Countess Southampton [aged 64].

On 6th October 1573 [his son] Henry Wriothesley 3rd Earl of Southampton was born to Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton [aged 28] and [his wife] Mary Browne Countess Southampton [aged 21] at Cowdray House [Map]. He married 30th August 1598 his third cousin once removed Elizabeth Vernon Countess Southampton and had issue.

On 15th September 1574 [his mother] Jane Cheney Countess Southampton [aged 65] died.

On 4th October 1581 Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton [aged 36] died. His son Henry [aged 7] succeeded 3rd Earl of Southampton. His wardship was sold by the Queen to her kinsman, Charles, Lord Howard of Effingham [aged 45], for £1000. Howard then transferred his wardship to William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley [aged 61].

After 22nd August 1591 Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland [aged 57] arrived in Titchfield, Hampshire [Map] as a guest of Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton.

On 2nd May 1594 Thomas Heneage [aged 62] and [his former wife] Mary Browne Countess Southampton [aged 41] were married. Her second husband. The difference in their ages was 20 years.

Between 5th November 1598 and 31st January 1599 William Hervey 1st Baron Hervey [aged 33] and [his former wife] Mary Browne Countess Southampton [aged 46] were married. Her third husband.

[his daughter] Mary Wriothesley Baroness Arundel Wardour was born to Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton and Mary Browne Countess Southampton. She married 18th June 1585 her half fourth cousin once removed Thomas Arundell 1st Baron Arundel and had issue.
