Around 1582 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords was born to Henry Beaumont [aged 32].

On 2nd October 1600 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 18] and Elizabeth Sapcote [aged 20] were married.

On 23rd April 1603 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 21] was knighted at Belvoir Castle [Map].

In 1604 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 22] was elected MP Tamworth.

On 31st March 1607 [his father] Henry Beaumont [aged 57] died.

In 1614 [his son] Sapcote Beaumont 2nd Viscount Beaumont of Swords was born to Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 32] and [his wife] Elizabeth Sapcote [aged 34]. He married (1) in or before 1634 his half second cousin once removed Ann Villiers Viscountess Beaumont, daughter of William Villiers 1st Baronet and Rebecca Roper Lady Villiers (2) in or before 1634 Bridget Monson Viscountess Beaumont, daughter of Thomas Monson 1st Baronet and Margaret Monson, and had issue.

On 17th September 1617 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 35] was created 1st Baronet Beaumont of Cole Orton.

On 20th May 1622 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 40] was created 1st Viscount Beaumont of Swords.

Around 1625 [his daughter] Elizabeth Beaumont was born to Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 43] and [his wife] Elizabeth Sapcote [aged 45]. She married (1) 8th August 1650 John Hotham 2nd Baronet and had issue (2) before 28th September 1671 William Gee and had issue.

On 8th February 1625 Thomas Beaumont 1st Viscount of Swords [aged 43] died from wounds received duelling. His son Sapcote [aged 11] succeeded 2nd Viscount Beaumont of Swords, 2nd Baronet Beaumont of Cole Orton.

Memoires of Jacques du Clercq

This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.
