Before 9th January 1585 [his father] Richard Grosvenor of Eaton [aged 22] and [his mother] Christiana Brooke were married.

On 9th January 1585 Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet was born to Richard Grosvenor of Eaton [aged 22] and Christiana Brooke at Eaton Hall, Cheshire [Map].

In 1600 Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 14] and Lettice Cholmondeley [aged 15] were married.

Around 1604 [his son] Richard Grosvenor 2nd Baronet was born to Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 18] and [his wife] Lettice Cholmondeley [aged 19] at Eaton Hall, Cheshire [Map].

In Latin, round the edge of the tomb - "Hugh Chalmondeley of Chalmondeley the elder, Knight, Vice-Warden of the Welsh Marches, six times Sheriff died in his 83rd year AD 15961, and in this earth is buried. Also his son and heir [his father-in-law] Hugh Chalmondeley, Knight attaining the age of 50 departed this life AD 1601 and lies here. Also his2 wife [his mother-in-law] Mary [aged 42] who after the death of her husband, on account of her very dear affection for him, for love of him had this monument erected in AD 1605"

Hugo Cholmundeley de Cholmundeley. senior, miles, Walliæ de Marg' vice p'ses, sextus vicecomes, mortem obiit, ao ætatis suæ 83 a° d'ni 1596, et hac humo sepelitur; filiusq' heres ejus Hugo Cholmundeley miles, annum agens 50, diem clausit ultimum, a° domini 1601; et hic jacet, uxorque ejus do'i'a Maria, quæ post viri obitum propter charum illius in se amorem hoc erigi fecit monumentum a° do'i. 1605.

The amorials above the children appear to be Venables and Grosvenor. Hugh "The Younger" Cholmondeley daughters [his sister-in-law] Frances [aged 3] and Lettice [aged 20] married Peter Venables Baron Kinderton and Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 19] respectively, suggesting the effigies may be Hugh "The Younger" Cholmondeley and Mary Holford.

On 17th January 1611 [his wife] Lettice Cholmondeley [aged 26] died.

On 24th August 1617 Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 32] was knighted by King James I of England and Ireland and VI of Scotland [aged 51] at Vale Royal, Cheshire [Map].

On 18th September 1619 [his father] Richard Grosvenor of Eaton [aged 57] died at Eaton, Cheshire [Map].

On 23rd February 1622 Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 37] was created 1st Baronet Grosvenor of Eaton in Cheshire.

Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke

Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

On 14th September 1645 Richard Grosvenor 1st Baronet [aged 60] died. His son Richard [aged 41] succeeded 2nd Baronet Grosvenor of Eaton in Cheshire.
