William "The Younger" Pitt 1759-1806

On 16th November 1754 [his father] William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham [aged 46] and [his mother] Hester Granville Countess Chatham [aged 34] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Richard Granville.

On 28th May 1759 William "The Younger" Pitt was born to William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham [aged 50] and Hester Granville Countess Chatham [aged 38].

On 8th January 1765 William Pynsent 2nd Baronet [aged 86] died having outlived his three daughters and his son, none of whom had issue. Baronet Pynsent of Erthfont extinct. He left his estate to [his father] William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham [aged 56] who was no relation and who he had never met. Pitt erected the Burton Pynsent Monument nearby at a cost of £2,000.

On 4th August 1766 [his father] William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham [aged 57] was created 1st Earl Chatham. [his mother] Hester Granville Countess Chatham [aged 45] by marriage Countess Chatham.

On 11th May 1778 [his father] William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham [aged 69] died. His son [his brother] John [aged 21] succeeded 2nd Earl Chatham. He was initally bured at Hayes. After an address by the Commons to the king praying that the deceased statesman might be buried with the honours of a public funeral a sum was voted for a public monument which was erected over a new grave in Westminster Abbey. The monument, by the sculptor John Bacon, has a figure of Pitt above statues of Britannia and Neptune with figures representing Prudence, Fortitude, the Earth and also a sea creature. On 10th July 1783 [his brother] John Pitt 2nd Earl Chatham [aged 26] and [his sister-in-law] Mary Elizabeth Townshend Countess Chatham were married. She by marriage Countess Chatham. He the son of [his father] William "The Elder" Pitt 1st Earl Chatham and [his mother] Hester Granville Countess Chatham [aged 62]. They were half fifth cousin once removed.

On 3rd August 1784 John Whitwell aka Griffin 4th Baron Howard Walden 1st Baron Braybrooke [aged 65] abeyance terminated 4th Baron Howard de Walden through the actions of William "The Younger" Pitt [aged 25].

On 9th April 1803 [his mother] Hester Granville Countess Chatham [aged 82] died. Her son [his brother] John [aged 46] succeeded 2nd Baron Chatham of Chatham in Kent.

In August 1803 Hester Lucy Stanhope [aged 27] moved into the home of her uncle William "The Younger" Pitt [aged 44] to manage his household and act as hostess - he being an unmarried Prime Minister.

In 1804 Francis Ingram Seymour-Conway 2nd Marquess Hertford [aged 60] was appointed Master of the Horse by William "The Younger" Pitt [aged 44].

In 23rd January 1806, after the death of William "The Younger" Pitt [aged 46], Hester Lucy Stanhope [aged 29] was awarded a pension of £1200 per year.

On 23rd January 1806 William "The Younger" Pitt [aged 46] died.
