His son [her father] Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 40) was created 1st Earl Surrey. Elizabeth Tilney Countess of Surrey (age 39) by marriage Countess Surrey.

William Berkeley 1st Marquess Berkeley (age 57) was created 1st Earl Nottingham.

John Howard 1st Duke of Norfolk (age 58) and William Berkeley 1st Marquess Berkeley (age 57) were heirs to the vast Mowbray estates that had been inherited by Anne Mowbray 8th Countess Norfolk who had been married to Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke York (age 9).

Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke York 1473-'s father King Edward IV of England had legislated that in the event of Anne's death his son Richard would continue to benefit from the inheritance; she died in 1481.

Around 1511 Dorothy Howard Countess Derby was born to Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk (age 68) and Agnes Tilney Duchess Norfolk (age 34).

In or before 1530 [her future husband] Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby (age 20) and Katherine Howard Countess Derby were married without the King's permission. She the daughter of Thomas Howard 3rd Duke of Norfolk (age 56) and Elizabeth Stafford Duchess Norfolk (age 32). He the son of Thomas Stanley 2nd Earl of Derby and Anne Hastings Countess Derby (age 44). They were third cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Edward III of England.

Hall's Chronicle 1532. After supper came in the Marchioness of Pembroke (age 30), with seven ladies in masking apparel, of strange fashion, made of clothe of gold, compassed with crimson tinsel satin, owned with cloth of silver, lying loose and knit with laces of gold: these ladies were brought into the chamber, with four damsels apparelled in crimson satin, with tabards of fine cypress: the lady Marques took the French King, and the Countess of Derby (age 20), took the King of Navarre, and every Lady took a Lord, and in dancing the King of England, took away the lady’s visors, so that there the ladies beauties were shewed, and after they had danced a while they ceased, and the French King talked with the Marchioness of Pembroke a space, and then he took his leave of the ladies, and the King conveyed him to his lodging: the same night the Duke of Norfolk feasted all the nobles of France, being there in the castle of Calais, with many goodly sports and pastimes.

Before 1553 [her son-in-law] Charles Stourton 8th Baron Stourton (age 33) and [her daughter] Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton (age 10) were married. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby (age 43) and Dorothy Howard Countess Derby (age 41).

She is listed first since she was one of the few remaining direct descendants of Henry VII, being a great-granddaughter by his daughter Mary Tudor. Margaret Clifford (age 22) was first in line to succeed in 1568 but died in 1596 before Elizabeth I.
