Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

In 1386 [his father] Hugh Fitzhugh 2nd Baron Fitzhugh died. He was buried at Jervaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire [Map]. His son Henry [aged 28] succeeded 3rd Baron Fitzhugh.
Around 1391 [his daughter] Maud Fitzhugh was born to Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 33] and [his future wife] Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh [aged 27] at Ravensworth, North Yorkshire. She married after 25th January 1410 her half fifth cousin once removed William Eure and had issue.
Before 1399 Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 40] and Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh [aged 34] were married. She by marriage Baroness Fitzhugh.
Around 1399 [his son] William Fitzhugh 4th Baron Fitzhugh was born to Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 41] and [his wife] Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh [aged 35]. He married before 18th November 1406 his fifth cousin once removed Margery Willoughby Baroness Fitzhugh, daughter of William Willoughby 5th Baron Willoughby and Lucy Strange Baroness Willoughby Eresby, and had issue.
On 14th September 1402 Henry Percy 1st Earl of Northumberland [aged 60] and his son Henry "Hotspur" Percy [aged 38] lay in wait at Homildon Hill, Northumberland [Map] for the Scots to return from their laying waste to Northumberland. The Battle of Homildon Hill was a victory for the English forces whose longbowmen decimated the Scottish schiltrons. Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 44] fought for the English.
John Swinton was killed.
Thomas Dunbar 2nd Earl of Moray [aged 31] and Henry Sinclair 2nd Earl Orkney [aged 27] were captured.
Archibald Douglas 1st Duke Touraine [aged 30] was wounded. King Henry IV of England [aged 35] forbade the ransoming of Scottish prisoners so that he could concentrate on the Welsh. By doing so he created a rift with the Percy family who subsequently defected to Owain ap Gruffudd Glyndŵr [aged 43].
William Stewart of Jedworth and Teviotdale [aged 46] was executed by Henry "Hotspur" Percy having been captured.
John Stewart 1st of Dalswinton and Garlies [aged 32] fought at the Battle of Homildon Hill.
Before 18th November 1406 [his son] William Fitzhugh 4th Baron Fitzhugh [aged 7] and [his daughter-in-law] Margery Willoughby Baroness Fitzhugh [aged 9] were married. They were fifth cousin once removed.
In 1409 Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 51] was appointed 115th Knight of the Garter by King Henry IV of England [aged 41].
After 25th January 1410 [his son-in-law] William Eure [aged 14] and [his daughter] Maud Fitzhugh [aged 19] were married. They were half fifth cousin once removed.
On 9th April 1413 King Henry V of England [aged 26] was crowned V King of England by Archbishop Thomas Fitzalan aka Arundel [aged 60] at Westminster Abbey [Map]. Duke Lancaster merged with the Crown.
Richard Beauchamp 13th Earl Warwick [aged 31] was appointed Lord High Steward. Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh [aged 55] was appointed Constable of England.

The Welsh included: William ap Thomas "Blue Knight of Gwent" Herbert [aged 35], Walter Sais [aged 95], Roger Vaughan [aged 70] and his son Roger Vaughan [aged 5]. Owen Tudor [aged 15] is believed to have been present as a squire.
Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

Around 13th December 1427 [his former wife] Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh [aged 63] died. She was buried at Jervaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire [Map].
[his son] Herbert Fitzhugh was born to Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh and Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh.
[his daughter] Lora Fitzhugh was born to Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh and Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh. She married her fifth cousin once removed Maurice Berkeley and had issue.
[his daughter] Eleanor Fitzhugh Baroness Darcy Knayth and Fitzhugh was born to Henry Fitzhugh 3rd Baron Fitzhugh and Elizabeth Grey Baroness Fitzhugh. She married (1) Philip Darcy 6th Baron Darcy of Knayth, son of John Darcy 5th Baron Darcy of Knayth and Margaret Grey Baroness Darcy Knayth, and had issue (2) 1434 her half fifth cousin once removed Henry Bromflete 1st Baron Vesci and had issue.
