Chronicle of Abbot Ralph of Coggeshall

On 20th April 1661 King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 30] created a number of new Baronets and Peers:

William Morice 1st Baronet [aged 33] was created 1st Baronet Morice of Werrington in Devon. Gertrude Bampfylde Lady Morice by marriage Lady Morice of Werrington in Devon.

John Crew 1st Baron Crew [aged 63] was created 1st Baron Crew of Stene in Northamptonshire. Jemima Waldegrave Baroness Crew [aged 59] by marriage Baroness Crew of Stene in Northamptonshire.

Edward Hyde 1st Earl Clarendon [aged 52] was created 1st Earl Clarendon at Westminster Abbey [Map] on the occasion of the Coronation Charles II. Frances Aylesbury Countess Clarendon [aged 43] by marriage Countess Clarendon.

On 9th December 1674 Edward Hyde 1st Earl Clarendon [aged 65] died at Rouen, France [Map]. His son Henry succeeded 2nd Earl Clarendon, 2nd Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1660. Flower Backhouse Countess Clarendon by marriage Countess Clarendon.

On 31st October 1709 Henry Hyde 2nd Earl Clarendon died. His son Edward [aged 47] succeeded 3rd Earl Clarendon, 3rd Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1660.

On 31st March 1723 Edward Hyde 3rd Earl Clarendon [aged 61] died. His first cousin Henry [aged 50] succeeded 4th Earl Clarendon, 4th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1660. Jane Leveson-Gower Countess Rochester and Clarendon by marriage Countess Clarendon.

On 10th December 1753 Henry Hyde 2nd Earl Rochester 4th Earl Clarendon [aged 81] died without male issue. Earl Rochester and Earl Clarendon extinct.

On 11th December 1786 Thomas Villiers 1st Earl Clarendon [aged 77] died. His son Thomas [aged 32] succeeded 2nd Earl Clarendon, 2nd Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 7th March 1824 Thomas Villiers 2nd Earl Clarendon [aged 70] died. His brother John [aged 66] succeeded 3rd Earl Clarendon, 3rd Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756. Maria Forbes Countess Clarendon [aged 63] by marriage Countess Clarendon.

On 22nd December 1838 John Villiers 3rd Earl Clarendon [aged 81] died. His nephew George [aged 38] succeeded 4th Earl Clarendon, 4th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.

On 3rd July 1839 George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon [aged 39] and Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon [aged 29] were married. She by marriage Countess Clarendon. She the daughter of James Walter Grimston 1st Earl Verulam [aged 63] and Charlotte Jenkinson Countess Verulam.

On 27th June 1870 George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon [aged 70] died. His son Edward [aged 24] succeeded 5th Earl Clarendon, 5th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.

On 6th September 1876 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon [aged 30] and Caroline Elizabeth Agar Countess Clarendon [aged 19] were married at Harbridge, Someroy. She by marriage Countess Clarendon. She the daughter of James Charles Agar 3rd Earl Normanton [aged 57] and Caroline Susan Augusta Barrington Countess Normanton [aged 41]. He the son of George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon. They were sixth cousins. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 5th August 1908 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon [aged 62] and Emma Hatch [aged 53] were married at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace. She by marriage Countess Clarendon. He the son of George William Villiers 4th Earl Clarendon and Katherine Grimston Countess Clarendon.

On 2nd October 1914 Edward Villiers 5th Earl Clarendon [aged 68] died at The Grove, Watford [Map]. His son George [aged 37] succeeded 6th Earl Clarendon, 6th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756. Adeline Verena Ishbel Cocks Countess of Clarendon [aged 28] by marriage Countess Clarendon.

On 13th December 1955 George Herbert Hyde Villiers 6th Earl Clarendon [aged 78] died. His grandson George [aged 22] succeeded 7th Earl Clarendon, 7th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.

On 4th July 2009 George Frederick Laurence Hyde Villiers 7th Earl Clarendon [aged 76] died. His son George [aged 33] succeeded 8th Earl Clarendon, 8th Baron Hyde of Hindon in Wiltshire 1756.
