Around 1531 [her son] Henry Dudley was born to [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 27] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 22]. He married before 22nd August 1553 his third cousin once removed Margaret Audley Duchess Norfolk, daughter of Thomas Audley 1st Baron Audley Walden and Elizabeth Grey Baroness Audley.

On 24th June 1532 [her son] Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester was born to [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 28] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 23]. He married 1. 4th June 1550 Amy Robsart 2. 21st September 1578 his fifth cousin Lettice Knollys Countess Essex and Leicester and had issue.

The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy

The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. Around 1538 . Some sources say around 1544. [her daughter] Katherine Dudley Countess Huntingdon was born to [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 34] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 29]. She married her fourth cousin once removed Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon, son of Francis Hastings 2nd Earl Huntingdon and Catherine Pole Countess Huntingdon.

Around 1549 Ambrose Dudley 3rd Earl Warwick [aged 19] and Anne Whorwood were married. He the son of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 45] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 40].

On 27th August 1549 the rebels were defeated by an army led by [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 45]. Henry Willoughby [aged 32] was killed at Mousehold Heath, Norwich [Map].

On 3rd June 1550 John Dudley 2nd Earl Warwick [aged 23] and Anne Seymour Countess of Warwick [aged 12] were married at Sheen Palace [Map]. On 4th June 1550 Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester [aged 17] and Amy Robsart [aged 17] were married at Sheen Palace [Map]. King Edward VI of England and Ireland [aged 12] and William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley [aged 29] attended. He the son of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 46] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 41].

In 1551 [her son-in-law] Henry Sidney [aged 22] and Mary Dudley [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 47] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 42].

11th October 1551, the day before his fourteenth birthday, King Edward VI [aged 13] celebrated at Hampton Court Palace [Map] by rewarding his guardians; it may have been a case of his guardians rewarding themselves.

[her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 47] was created 1st Duke Northumberland. Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 42] by marriage Duchess Northumberland. His son Henry Dudley [aged 25] was knighted.

Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk [aged 34] was created 1st Duke Suffolk for having married King Edward VI's first cousin Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk [aged 34]. Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

William Paulet [aged 68] was created 1st Marquess Winchester. Elizabeth Capell Marchioness Winchester by marriage Marchioness Winchester.

On 25th May 1553 a triple wedding was celebrated at Durham Place, the London townhouse of [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 49], father of Guildford Dudley [aged 18] and Katherine Dudley Countess Huntingdon [aged 15]...

Guildford Dudley and Lady Jane Grey [aged 17] were married. She the daughter of Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk [aged 36] and Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk [aged 35]. He the son of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 44]. They were third cousin once removed. She a great granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Henry Hastings 3rd Earl Huntingdon [aged 18] and Katherine Dudley Countess Huntingdon were married. She the daughter of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland. Henry Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke [aged 15] and Catherine Grey Countess Hertford [aged 12] were married. She the daughter of Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk and Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk. He the son of William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke [aged 52] and Anne Parr Countess Pembroke. They were fourth cousins. She a great granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

Before 22nd August 1553 Henry Dudley [aged 22] and Margaret Audley Duchess Norfolk [aged 13] were married. He the son of John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 49] and Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 44]. They were third cousin once removed.

On 22nd August 1553 [her husband] John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland [aged 49] was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map]. Duke Northumberland, Earl Warwick and Viscount Lisle forfeit. John Dudley 2nd Earl Warwick [aged 26], his son, was also attainted, with the Earldom of Warwick forfeit.

Thomas Palmer and John Gates [aged 49] were hanged, drawn and quartered.

On 12th February 1554 [her son] Guildford Dudley [aged 19] was beheaded at Tower Hill [Map]. An hour later his wife [her daughter-in-law] Lady Jane Grey [aged 18] was beheaded at Tower Green [Map] by order of Queen Mary I [aged 37]. They were buried at St Peter ad Vincula Church, Tower of London [Map].

Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans

Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

On 21st October 1554 [her son] John Dudley 2nd Earl Warwick [aged 27] died at Penshurst Place, Kent [Map] not long after he had been released from the Tower of London.

In 1555 Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland [aged 46] died.

Henry Machyn's Diary. 1st February 1555. [The j day of February was buried the duchess of Northumberland at Chelsea where she lived, with a goodly herse of wax and pensils, and escocheons, two baners] of armes, and iiij [banners of images, and] mony mornars, and with ij haroldes of armes. Ther was a mageste and the valans, and vj dosen of torchys and ij whyt branchys, and alle the chyrche hangyd with blake and armes, and a canepe borne over her to the chyrche.

Note. P. 81. Funeral of the duchess of Northumberland. Jane daughter and sole heir of sir [her father] Edward Guilford, lord warden of the Cinque Ports, and widow of [her former husband] John Dudley, duke of Northumberland. She gave birth to thirteen children, eight sons and five daughters. Her monument, decorated with coloured brass plates, still remains in Chelsea church, and is engraved in Faulkner's History of that parish. Her will, which is remarkable as having been written entirely with her own hand, though of considerable length, is printed in Collins's Memoirs of the Sidneys, &c. prefixed to the Sidney Papers, fol. 1746, p. 33.
