In or before 1130 Gilbert de Clare 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Beaumont Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Robert Beaumont 1st Earl of Leicester Count Meulan and Elizabeth Capet Countess Leicester, Meulan and Surrey.

In 1138 Gilbert de Clare 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke by King Stephen I England leading to doubt as to its authenticity when King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England ascended the throne.

On 6th January 1148 Gilbert de Clare 1st Earl Pembroke died. Richard "Strongbow" Clare 2nd Earl Pembroke succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke. Aoife ni Diarmait Macmurrough Countess Pembroke and Buckingham by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 20th April 1176 Richard "Strongbow" Clare 2nd Earl Pembroke died at Dublin. He was buried at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. Gilbert Clare 3rd Earl Pembroke succeeded 3rd Earl Pembroke although being a minor he was never invested with the title.

In 1185 Gilbert Clare 3rd Earl Pembroke died. Earl Pembroke extinct. It is possible his sister Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke inherited the title. Her husband William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl of Pembroke in 1199 which suggests she didn't inherit the title.

Earl Pembroke

In 1199 William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

After 1208 Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke and Maud Bohun Countess Pembroke and Winchester were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex. He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke.

In September 1214 William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke and Alice Béthune Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Baldwin Béthune Count Aumale and Hawise Blois 2nd Countess Albemarle and Essex. He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke.

On 14th May 1219 William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke died. William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke.

On 23rd April 1224 William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke and Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Pembroke and Leicester were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 25 years. She the daughter of King John of England and Isabella of Angoulême Queen Consort England. He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke.

On 6th April 1231 William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke died. Richard Marshal 3rd Earl Pembroke succeeded 3rd Earl Pembroke. Gervase Dinant Countess Pembroke by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 16th April 1234 Richard Marshal 3rd Earl Pembroke died from wounds at Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny. Gilbert Marshal 4th Earl Pembroke succeeded 4th Earl Pembroke.

On 1st August 1235 Gilbert Marshal 4th Earl Pembroke and Marjorie Dunkeld Countess Pembroke were married at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of King William I of Scotland and Ermengarde Beaumont Sarthe Queen Consort Scotland. He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke.

On 27th June 1241 Gilbert Marshal 4th Earl Pembroke was killed in a tournament at Ware, Hertfordshire. He was buried at Temple Church, London next to his father. Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke succeeded 5th Earl Pembroke; he had also attended the tournament. The King King Henry III of England had expressly forbidden the tournament leading to anger at his disobeying the King's orders.

On 6th January 1242 Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke and Margaret Quincy 3rd Countess Lincoln and Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. He by marriage Earl Lincoln. A dynastic marriage that brought together the Earldom's of Pembroke and Lincoln. She the daughter of Robert Quincy Earl Lincoln and Hawise Gernon 2nd Countess Lincoln. He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke.

On 27th November 1245 Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke died at Goodrich Castle, Gloucestershire. He was buried at Tintern Abbey next to his mother Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke although he only enjoyed the title for one month dying on 23rd December 1245.

On 23rd December 1245 Anselm Marshal 6th Earl Pembroke died at Chepstow Castle. He was buried at Tintern Abbey next to his brother Walter Marshal 5th Earl Pembroke, who had died only a month before, and mother Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke. Earl Pembroke extinct.

Earl Pembroke

In 1247 William de Valence 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 20th September 1307 Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke died. Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl Pembroke succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke.

In 1321 Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl Pembroke and Marie Chatillon Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 28 years. She the daughter of Guy Chatillon IV Count Saint Pol and Marie Capet. He the son of William de Valence 1st Earl Pembroke and Joan Munchensi Countess Pembroke.

On 23rd June 1324 Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl Pembroke died. He was buried at Westminster Abbey where his tomb effigy can still be seen as a splendid example of late gothic architecture. Earl Pembroke extinct.

Earl Pembroke

On 12th October 1339 Laurence Hastings 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Agnes Mortimer Countess of Pembroke by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 19th May 1359, or thereabouts, a double-royal wedding celebration took place at Reading Abbey, Berkshire whereby two children of King Edward III of England were married:

John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster and Blanche Duchess of Lancaster were married. She by marriage Countess Richmond. She the daughter of Henry of Grosmont 1st Duke Lancaster and Isabel Beaumont Duchess Lancaster. He the son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainaut Queen Consort England.

John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke and Margaret Plantagenet Countess of Pembroke were married. At the time John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke was a ward of King Edward III of England who would enjoy the benefit of the substantial revenue of the Earldom of Pembroke until John came of age nine years later in 1368. She died two or so years later probably of plague. She the daughter of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainaut Queen Consort England. He the son of Laurence Hastings 1st Earl Pembroke and Agnes Mortimer Countess of Pembroke.

On 16th April 1375 John Hastings 2nd Earl Pembroke died. He was buried at Hereford. John Hastings 3rd Earl Pembroke succeeded 3rd Earl Pembroke, 5th Baron Hastings, 16th Baron Abergavenny Feudal Creation.

On 30th December 1389 John Hastings 3rd Earl Pembroke was killed in a tournament during the Christmas Court at Woodstock Palace, Oxfordshire. Earl Pembroke and Baron Manny, Baron Abergavenny Feudal Creation extinct. He was struck in the groin by the lance of Sir John Des.

John Hastings 6th Baron Hastings de jure 6th Baron Hastings. His claim was contested by Reginald Grey 3rd Baron Grey Ruthyn who was the son of Elizabeth Hastings Baroness Grey Ruthyn daughter of John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings his case being that he was of the full blood whereas John Hastings 6th Baron Hastings was of the half-blood ie Reginald Grey 3rd Baron Grey Ruthyn, like John Hastings 3rd Earl Pembroke, was descended from John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings and Isabel Valence Baroness Bergavenny Baroness Hastings, whereas John Hastings 6th Baron Hastings was descended from John Hastings 13th Baron Abergavenny 1st Baron Hastings and Isabel Despencer Baroness Hastings and Bergavenny.

Earl Pembroke

On 16th May 1414 King Henry V of England created Dukedoms for his two brothers:

Humphrey Lancaster 1st Duke Gloucester was created 1st Duke Gloucester, 1st Earl Pembroke.

John Lancaster 1st Duke Bedford was created 1st Duke Bedford, 1st Earl Kendal.

On 23rd February 1447 Humphrey Lancaster 1st Duke Gloucester died at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He was possibly poisoned although more likely he died from a stroke. Duke Gloucester, Earl Pembroke extinct. His death left England with no heir to the throne in a direct line. Richard Plantagenet 3rd Duke of York became heir presumptive until the birth of Edward of Westminster Prince of Wales six years later.

Earl Pembroke

In 1447 William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Alice Chaucer Duchess Suffolk by marriage Countess Pembroke.

Before 1st May 1450, the day he was murdered, William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk was impeached, and sentenced to the exiled. Duke Suffolk, Marquess Suffolk, Earl Pembroke forfeit.

On 1st May 1450 William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk was beheaded at sea whilst travelling into exile his ship having been intercepted by the Nicholas of the Tower, or by Admiral Nicholas of the Tower. John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk succeeded 2nd Marquess Suffolk, 5th Earl Suffolk, 5th Baron Pole. Margaret Beaufort Countess Richmond by marriage Marchioness Suffolk. Earl Pembroke forfeit.

Earl Pembroke

On 25th November 1452 Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

On 7th November 1485 Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford and Catherine Woodville Duchess Buckingham and Bedford were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 26 years. She the daughter of Richard Woodville 1st Earl Rivers and Jacquetta of Luxembourg Duchess Bedford. He the son of Owen Tudor and Catherine of Valois Queen Consort England.

On 21st December 1495 Jasper Tudor 1st Duke Bedford died at Thornbury Manor without legitimate issue. He was buried at Keynsham Abbey. Duke Bedford, Earl Pembroke extinct.

Earl Pembroke

On 27th May 1468 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

On 27th July 1469 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke was executed following his capture at the Battle of Edgecote Moor. William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke, 2nd Baron Herbert of Raglan. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon by marriage Countess Pembroke.

In 1479 William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon was compelled to relinquish the Earldom of Pembroke by King Edward IV who gave it to his son.

Edward Prince of Wales was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

In compensation William was created 1st Earl Huntingdon. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

Earl Pembroke

In 1479 William Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Huntingdon was compelled to relinquish the Earldom of Pembroke by King Edward IV who gave it to his son.

Edward Prince of Wales was created 1st Earl Pembroke.

In compensation William was created 1st Earl Huntingdon. Mary Woodville Countess Pembroke and Huntingdon by marriage Countess Huntingdon.

Around August 1483 the Princes in the Tower, brothers King Edward V of England and Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke of York disappeared from the Tower of London.

King Edward V of England: Earl March and Earl Pembroke extinct.

Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke of York: Duke York, Duke Norfolk and Earl Norfolk, Earl Nottingham extinct.

Commines writes "Not long after, he received letters from the Duke of Gloucester, who had made himself king, styled himself Richard III, and barbarously murdered his two nephews".

Robert Ricart, Mayor of Bristol: "And this yere the two sonnes of King E. were put to scylence in the Towre of London." although it should be noted this was written in the margin.

Croyland Chronicle: "while a rumour was spread that the sons of king Edward before-named had died a violent death, but it was uncertain how."

Polydore Vergil: "And to rid himself of this altogether he decided to kill his nephews, for as long as they were safe he could by no means be free of danger."

Jean Molinet: "They were imprisoned for about five weeks; and by the captain of the tower, the Duke Richard secretly had them put to death and eliminated."

Mancini: "I have seen not a few people burst into tears and weep when his memory was brought up after he was removed from the sight of men, and it was already suspected that he had been eliminated. Whether he has indeed been removed, and by what manner of death, I have not yet discovered."

Earl Pembroke

11th October 1551, the day before his fourteenth birthday, King Edward VI celebrated at Hampton Court Palace by rewarding his guardians; it may have been a case of his guardians rewarding themselves.

John Dudley 1st Duke Northumberland was created 1st Duke Northumberland. Jane Guildford Duchess Northumberland by marriage Duchess Northumberland. His son Henry Dudley was knighted.

Henry Grey 1st Duke of Suffolk was created 1st Duke Suffolk for having married King Edward VI's first cousin Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk. Frances Brandon Duchess of Suffolk by marriage Duchess Suffolk.

William Paulet was created 1st Marquess Winchester. Elizabeth Capell Marchioness Winchester by marriage Marchioness Winchester.

His guardian William Herbert was created 1st Earl Pembroke. Anne Parr Countess Pembroke by marriage Countess Pembroke.

Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset, the King's uncle attended.

Henry Dudley was knighted at Hampton Court Palace, Richmond.

After 20th February 1552 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke and Anne Talbot Countess Pembroke were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of George Talbot 4th Earl of Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Walden.

On 17th March 1570 William Herbert 1st Earl Pembroke died at Hampton Court Palace, Richmond. Henry Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke succeeded 2nd Earl Pembroke. Catherine Talbot Countess Pembroke by marriage Countess Pembroke.

On 19th January 1601 Henry Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke died. William Herbert 3rd Earl Pembroke succeeded 3rd Earl Pembroke.

On 4th November 1604 William Herbert 3rd Earl Pembroke and Mary Talbot Countess Pembroke were married at Shrewsbury, Shropshire. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. She the daughter of Gilbert Talbot 7th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Cavendish Countess Shrewsbury and Waterford. He the son of Henry Herbert 2nd Earl Pembroke and Mary Sidney Countess Pembroke.

Before 1650 Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery and Susan Vere Countess Montgomery.

On 11th December 1669 Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery died. William Herbert 6th Earl Pembroke 3rd Earl Montgomery succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke, 3rd Earl Montgomery.

On 8th July 1674 William Herbert 6th Earl Pembroke 3rd Earl Montgomery died. Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery succeeded 7th Earl Pembroke, 4th Earl Montgomery.

On 17th December 1674 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery and Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery.

In 1684 Thomas Herbert 8th Earl Pembroke 5th Earl Montgomery and Margaret Sawyer Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. The difference in their ages was 25 years. On 8th May 1877 George Robert Charles Herbert 13th Earl Pembroke 10th Earl Montgomery and Gertrude Frances Chetwynd-Talbot Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. She the daughter of Henry John Chetwynd-Talbot 3rd Earl Talbot 18th Earl of Shrewsbury and Sarah Elizabeth Beresford Countess Talbot Shrewsbury Waterford.

On 3rd May 1895 George Robert Charles Herbert 13th Earl Pembroke 10th Earl Montgomery died in Frankfurt. Sidney Herbert 14th Earl Pembroke 11th Earl Montgomery succeeded 14th Earl Pembroke, 11th Earl Montgomery, 3rd Baron Herbert Lea. Beatrix Louisa Lambton Countess Pembroke and Montgomery by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery.

On 30th March 1913 Sidney Herbert 14th Earl Pembroke 11th Earl Montgomery died in Rome, Italy. Reginald Herbert 15th Earl Pembroke 12th Earl Montgomery succeeded 15th Earl Pembroke, 12th Earl Montgomery, 4th Baron Herbert Lea. Beatrice Eleanor Paget Countess Pembroke and Montgomery by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery.

On 16th March 1969 Sidney Herbert 16th Earl of Pembroke, 13th Earl of Montgomery died.
