Before 1641 [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery [aged 19] and Penelope Naunton [aged 20] were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery [aged 56] and [his grandmother] Susan Vere Countess Montgomery.
Before 1650 [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery [aged 28] and [his mother] Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of [his grandfather] Philip Herbert 4th Earl Pembroke 1st Earl Montgomery [aged 65] and [his grandmother] Susan Vere Countess Montgomery.
On or before 5th January 1652 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery was born to Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery [aged 31] and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery [aged 31]. He was baptised at St Benet's Church, Paul's Wharf [Map] on 5th January 1652.
On 11th December 1669 [his father] Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery [aged 48] died. His son [his half-brother] William [aged 28] succeeded 6th Earl Pembroke, 3rd Earl Montgomery.
On 8th July 1674 [his half-brother] William Herbert 6th Earl Pembroke 3rd Earl Montgomery [aged 33] died. His half brother Philip [aged 22] succeeded 7th Earl Pembroke, 4th Earl Montgomery.
On 17th December 1674 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 22] and Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke, Countess Montgomery. He the son of Philip Herbert 5th Earl Pembroke 2nd Earl Montgomery and Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery [aged 53].
Around 1676 [his daughter] Charlotte Herbert Viscountess Windsor was born to Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 23] and [his wife] Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery. She married 1. before 15th November 1698 John Jeffreys 2nd Baron Jeffreys, son of George "Hanging Judge" Jeffreys 1st Baron Jeffreys and Sarah Needham, and had issue 2. after 9th May 1703 her half fourth cousin Thomas Windsor 1st Viscount Windsor, son of Thomas Hickman Windsor 1st Earl Plymouth and Ursula Widdrington Countess Plymouth, and had issue.
On 28th January 1678 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 26] was imprisoned at Tower of London [Map] by King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 47] "for uttering such horrid and blasphemous words, and other actions proved upon oath, as are not fit to be repeated in any Christian assembly". He was released two days later on 30th January 1678.
Before 5th February 1678 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 26] had kicked to death Nathaniel Cony in a tavern for no apparent reason, and a few days later a Middlesex grand jury indicted him for murder. He was tried by his peers on 4th April 1678 and found guilty of manslaughter. He successfully pleaded Privilege of peerage, the right to escape punishment for one's first offence, and he was discharged on payment of all fees. The Lord High Steward presiding at the trial, James Butler 1st Duke Ormonde [aged 67] warned him to note "that no man could have the benefit of that statute but once". The foreman of the jury Edmund Berry Godfrey [aged 56] was found dead in a ditch nine months later.
On 28th February 1678 [his mother] Catherine Villiers Countess Pembroke and Montgomery [aged 57] died.
On 18th August 1680 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 28] killed William Smeeth following a drunken evening in the tavern on Turnham Green Chiswick. On 21st June 1681 the grand jury of Middlesex charged him with murder. Pembroke could not invoke the privilege of peerage for a second time, leading him to briefly flee the country. A petition signed by twenty-four of his fellow peers was presented to the king, resulting in a royal pardon being granted to him.
On 28th August 1683 Philip "Infamous Earl" Herbert 7th Earl Pembroke 4th Earl Montgomery [aged 31] died. He was buried at Salisbury Cathedral [Map]. His brother Thomas [aged 27] succeeded 8th Earl Pembroke, 5th Earl Montgomery.
In December 1728 [his former wife] Henrietta Kéroualle Countess Pembroke and Montgomery died.
