His grandson Henry [aged 15] succeeded 2nd Duke Beaufort, 4th Marquess Worcester, 8th Earl Worcester, 10th Baron Herbert of Raglan.
On 12th December 1767 Charles Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 23] and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 20] at Badminton, Gloucestershire. He married (1) 7th June 1788 Elizabeth Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay 8th Earl Devon and Frances Clack Countess Devon, and had issue (2) 9th August 1821 Mary Paulett, daughter of John Paulett 4th Earl Paulett and Sophia Pocock Countess Paulett, and had issue.
On 8th April 1828 Colonel Thomas Henry Kingscote of Kingscote Park in Gloucestershire [aged 29] and Isabella Somerset Anne Frances [aged 19] were married at Badminton, Gloucestershire. She died three years later in childbirth. She the daughter of Henry Charles Somerset 6th Duke Beaufort [aged 61] and Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower Duchess Beaufort [aged 57].
On 12th May 1948 Vere Fane 14th Earl of Westmoreland [aged 55] died at his home near Badminton, Gloucestershire. His son David [aged 24] succeeded 15th Earl of Westmoreland.
Adeline Horsey Recollections. From Cowes we went to stay with the Ailesburys at Savernake, and then to Badminton, where the Beauforts had a large family party. The church was attached to the house, and one actually walked out of the library into the Parish Church, where the roomy Beaufort pew was well warmed by a fire. I remember going with the Duchess, my mother [aged 42], and Lord Cantelupe [aged 27] to see Berkeley Castle [Map], a most interesting but very uncomfortable draughty old place. I afterwards heard that Colonel Berkeley [aged 55], whose name figured in certain scandals of the Regency, had spent much of his time there with the numerous frail ladies who found him irresistible.
Adeline Horsey Recollections. From Badminton we went on a visit to Lord Forester at Willey Park, Shropshire, where I met Lady Jersey [aged 56] and her daughter, Lady Clementina Villiers [aged 18].
Lady Jersey was the greatest grande dame in London Society, and her house in Berkeley Square, Mayfair was the centre of the Tory party. She knew all the artistic and literary celebrities of the day, and her popularity was most remarkable. Lady Clementina Villiers was a beautiful and accomplished girl, and everybody loved her. Once when some one said to her father [aged 68] that "no one was perfect", Lord Jersey replied: "There is one who is perfect - there is Clementina". Many suitors proposed for her, a most persistent one being the Duke d'Ossuna, a grandee of Spain, and an immensely rich man. He must have been deeply in love with the beautiful English girl, for he used to keep many drawings and portraits of Lady Clementina in his palace at Madrid.
"Those whom the gods love die young", and so it was with Clementina Villiers; she was taken ill during a visit to Germany with her mother and only returned to England to die.
Her portraits were in all the "Books of Beauty" of the day, but although they faithfully portray her perfect features, they cannot convey the beauty of colour and changing expression that were her greatest charms.

On 5th February 1984 Henry Hugh Arthur Fitzroy Somerset 10th Duke Beaufort [aged 83] died at Badminton House without issue. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His first cousin twice removed David [aged 55] succeeded 11th Duke Beaufort, 13th Marquess Worcester, 17th Earl Worcester, 19th Baron Herbert of Raglan. Baron Botetort abeyant. This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

In 1878 Henry Somerset 1st Duke Beaufort was re-buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. monument by Grinling Gibbons is now on the North side of the chancel and consists of an effigy of the Duke in Garter robes, reclining on a sarcophagus and a plinth with relief of St George and the Dragon. There are twin Corinthian columns with embossed shafts, acanthus frieze, cornice with flaming urns, and the Duke's arms and supporters. At the top, 25 ft from the ground, is a tasselled cushion supporting a coronet; on the plinth are full-length female figures of Justice and Truth. Above the Duke's effigy, parted curtains show the heavenly host with palms and crowns. The Latin inscription displays the names of his family and the many offices he held.
