Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort 1744-1803

On 1st May 1740 [his father] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort [aged 30] and [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 27] were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort and [his grandmother] Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort.

On 16th October 1744 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort was born to Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort [aged 35] and Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 31].

On 26th February 1745 [his uncle] Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort [aged 37] died. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His brother [his father] Charles [aged 35] succeeded 4th Duke Beaufort, 6th Marquess Worcester, 10th Earl Worcester, 12th Baron Herbert of Raglan. [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 32] by marriage Duchess Beaufort.

On 28th October 1756 [his father] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort [aged 47] died. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His son Henry [aged 12] succeeded 5th Duke Beaufort, 7th Marquess Worcester, 11th Earl Worcester, 13th Baron Herbert of Raglan.

On 6th December 1758 George Compton 6th Earl of Northampton [aged 66] died. His nephew [his future brother-in-law] Charles [aged 21] succeeded 7th Earl of Northampton. [his sister] Anne Somerset Countess Northampton [aged 17] by marriage Countess of Northampton.

On 13th September 1759 [his brother-in-law] Charles Compton 7th Earl of Northampton [aged 22] and [his sister] Anne Somerset Countess Northampton [aged 18] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort and [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 46]. They were third cousin once removed.

On 18th October 1760 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 16] matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford University.

On 18th May 1763 [his sister] Anne Somerset Countess Northampton [aged 22] died in Naples [Map].

On 7th July 1763 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 18] graduated from Oriel College, Oxford University with a Doctor of Civil degree.

On 2nd January 1766 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 21] and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 18] were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. He the son of Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 53]. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 22nd December 1766 [his son] Henry Charles Somerset 6th Duke Beaufort was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 22] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 19]. He married 16th May 1791 his half fourth cousin once removed Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower Duchess Beaufort, daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford and Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford, and had issue.

On 12th December 1767 [his son] Charles Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 23] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 20] at Badminton, Gloucestershire. He married 1. 7th June 1788 Elizabeth Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay 8th Earl Devon and Frances Clack Countess Devon, and had issue 2. 9th August 1821 Mary Paulett, daughter of John Paulett 4th Earl Paulett and Sophia Pocock Countess Paulett, and had issue.

In 1768 [his son] Edward Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 23] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 20]. He died aged one in 1769.

In 1768 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 23] was appointed Master of the Horse to the Queen Consort.

In 1769 [his son] Edward Somerset [aged 1] died.

In 1771 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 26] was appointed Lieutenant of Monmouthshire which office he held until his death.

On 4th May 1771 [his son] Norbonne Berkeley Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 26] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 23].

On 11th February 1773 [his daughter] Elizabeth Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 28] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 25]. She married before 28th February 1823 Dean Charles Talbot and had issue.

On 26th December 1775 [his brother-in-law] Charles Manners 4th Duke Rutland [aged 21] and [his sister] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 19] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort and [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 62]. They were half fourth cousins.

On 19th December 1776 [his son] Robert Edward Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 32] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 29]. He married 17th October 1805 Louisa Augusta Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay 8th Earl Devon and Frances Clack Countess Devon, and had issue.

On 29th May 1779 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 82] died. His grandson [his brother-in-law] Charles [aged 25] succeeded 4th Duke Rutland, 4th Marquess Grandby, 12th Earl of Rutland, 4th Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire. [his sister] Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 22] by marriage Duchess Rutland.

On 12th February 1780 [his son] Arthur John Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 35] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 32]. He married 23rd June 1808 his first cousin Elizabeth Bocawen, daughter of George Evelyn Boscawen 3rd Viscount Falmouth.

On 2nd September 1784 [his son] William George Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 39] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 37]. He married 29th June 1813 Elizabeth Molyneux, daughter of General Thomas Molyneau 5th Baronet and Elizabeth Perrin Lady Molyneux.

On 7th June 1786 [his daughter] Anne Elizabeth Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 41] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 39].

In 1787 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 42] was appointed Lieutenant of Brecnockshire which office he held until his death.

On 30th August 1787 [his son] John Thomas Henry Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 42] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 40]. He married 4th December 1814 Catherine Annesley, daughter of Arthur Annesley 1st Earl Mountnorris and Sarah Cavendish Countess Mountnorris.

On 7th June 1788 Charles Henry Somerset [aged 20] and Elizabeth Courtenay [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of William Courtenay 8th Earl Devon [aged 45] and Frances Clack Countess Devon. He the son of Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 43] and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 41].

On 30th September 1788 [his son] Fitzroy James Henry Somerset 1st Baron Raglan was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 43] and [his wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 41]. He married 6th August 1814 his fifth cousin Emily Harriet Wellesley-Pole Baroness Raglan, daughter of William Wellesley aka Wellesley-Pole 3rd Earl Mornington and Katherine Forbes Countess Mornington, and had issue.

On 16th May 1791 Henry Charles Somerset 6th Duke Beaufort [aged 24] and Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower Duchess Beaufort [aged 20] were married at St Mary at Lambeth Church, Surrey [Map]. She the daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 69] and Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford. He the son of Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 46] and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 43]. They were half fourth cousin once removed.

On 8th April 1799 [his mother] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 86] died.

On 4th June 1803 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 58] abeyance terminated 5th Baron Botetort.

On 22nd September 1803 [his daughter] Anne Elizabeth Somerset [aged 17] died.

On 11th October 1803 Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort [aged 58] died. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His son Henry [aged 36] succeeded 6th Duke Beaufort, 8th Marquess Worcester, 12th Earl Worcester, 14th Baron Herbert of Raglan, 6th Baron Botetort. Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower Duchess Beaufort [aged 32] by marriage Duchess Beaufort.

On 15th June 1828 [his former wife] Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort [aged 81] died.

[his son] Frances Elizabeth Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort.

[his daughter] Harriet Isabella Elizabeth Somerset was born to Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort.
