On 7th July 1702 [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 18] and Mary Sackville 2nd Duchess Beaufort [aged 13] were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. She the daughter of Charles Sackville 6th Earl Dorset 1st Earl Middlesex [aged 59] and Mary Compton Countess Dorset and Middlesex. They were fourth cousins.

On 26th February 1706 [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 21] and [his mother] Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Wriothesley Baptist Noel 2nd Earl Gainsborough and [his grandmother] Catherine Greville Duchess Buckingham and Normandby. They were fourth cousins.

On 23rd March 1707 Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort was born to Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 22] and Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort [aged 20].

On 12th September 1709 [his brother] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort was born to [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 25] and Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort [aged 22]. His mother Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort died from childbirth the next day. He married 1st May 1740 Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort and had issue.

On 14th September 1711 [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 27] and [his step-mother] Mary Osborne Duchess Beaufort [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Duchess Beaufort. She the daughter of Peregrine Osborne 2nd Duke Leeds [aged 52] and Bridget Hyde Duchess Leeds [aged 49]. They were fourth cousin once removed.

On 24th April 1714 [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort [aged 30] died. He was buried at St Michael and all Angels Church, Badminton. His son Henry [aged 7] succeeded 3rd Duke Beaufort, 5th Marquess Worcester, 9th Earl Worcester, 11th Baron Herbert of Raglan.

On 2nd December 1716 James Scudamore 3rd Viscount Scudamore [aged 32] died from a fall from a horse. Viscount Scudamore extinct. Holme Lacy House, Herefordshire [Map] was inherited by his daughter [his future wife] Frances [aged 5].

In 1728 [his daughter] Margaret Somerset aka Burr was born to Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort [aged 20]. She married 1748 Thomas Gainsborough.

On 28th June 1729 Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort [aged 22] and Frances Scudamore 3rd Duchess Beaufort [aged 18] were married. He the son of Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort and Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort. They were second cousins.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 1st May 1740 [his brother] Charles Noel Somerset 4th Duke Beaufort [aged 30] and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Berkeley Duchess Beaufort [aged 27] were married. He the son of [his father] Henry Somerset 2nd Duke Beaufort and [his mother] Rachel Noel Duchess Beaufort.

In March 1743 Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort [aged 35] and Frances Scudamore 3rd Duchess Beaufort [aged 32] were divorced. He sued William Talbot 1st Earl Talbot [aged 32], with whom his wife was having an affair, for damages.

In 1744 Charles Fitzroy-Scudamore [aged 31] and [his former wife] Frances Scudamore 3rd Duchess Beaufort [aged 33] were married. She brought Holme Lacy House, Herefordshire [Map] to the marriage. He the son of Charles Fitzroy 2nd Duke Grafton [aged 60]. They were fifth cousin once removed. He a great grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

In 1748 [his son-in-law] Thomas Gainsborough [aged 20] and Margaret Somerset aka Burr [aged 20] were married. Her father, Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort, had settled a £200 annuity on her. She the daughter of Henry Somerset 3rd Duke Beaufort.

On 10th February 1750 Frances Scudamore Duchess Norfolk was born to Charles Fitzroy-Scudamore [aged 37] and [his former wife] Frances Scudamore 3rd Duchess Beaufort [aged 39]. Her mother died from childbirth six dys later when she inherited Holme Lacy House, Herefordshire [Map]. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. She married 6th April 1771 Charles Howard 11th Duke of Norfolk, son of Charles Howard 10th Duke of Norfolk and Catherine Brockholes Duchess Norfolk.
