John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland 1696-1779

Before 21st October 1696 [his father] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland [aged 20] and [his mother] Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland [aged 20] were married. He the son of [his grandfather] John Manners 1st Duke Rutland [aged 58] and [his grandmother] Catherine Noel Duchess Rutland [aged 39]. They were sixth cousins.

On 21st October 1696 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland was born to John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland [aged 20] and Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland [aged 20].

On 10th January 1711 [his grandfather] John Manners 1st Duke Rutland [aged 72] died at Belvoir Castle [Map]. His son [his father] John [aged 34] succeeded 2nd Duke Rutland, 2nd Marquess Grandby, 10th Earl of Rutland, 2nd Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire. [his mother] Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland [aged 34] by marriage Duchess Rutland.

On 30th October 1711 [his mother] Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland [aged 35] died.

On 1st January 1713 [his father] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland [aged 36] and [his step-mother] Lucy Sherard Duchess Rutland [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Duchess Rutland. He the son of [his grandfather] John Manners 1st Duke Rutland and [his grandmother] Catherine Noel Duchess Rutland [aged 56].

Before 1718 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 21] and Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 18] were married. He the son of John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland [aged 41] and Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland.

In 1718 [his daughter] Catherine Rachel Manners was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 21] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 18].

Around March 1719 [his daughter] Caroline Manners was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 22] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 19].

In 1721 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 24] was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire.

On 2nd January 1721 [his son] John Manners Marquess of Granby was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 24] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 21]. He married 3rd September 1750 his fifth cousin Frances Seymour, daughter of Charles Seymour 6th Duke of Somerset and Charlotte Finch Duchess Somerset, and had issue.

On 22nd February 1721 [his father] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland [aged 44] died. His son John [aged 24] succeeded 3rd Duke Rutland, 3rd Marquess Grandby, 11th Earl of Rutland, 3rd Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire. In 1722 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 25] was appointed 540th Knight of the Garter by King George I [aged 61].

On 21st February 1722 [his son] Robert Manners-Sutton was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 25] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 22].

On 25th February 1723 [his son] George Manners-Sutton was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 26] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 23]. He married 1. 5th December 1749 Diana Chaplin and had issue 2. 5th February 1768 Mary Peart and had issue.

On 29th June 1724 [his son] William Manners was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 27] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 24]. He died aged five in 1730.

In or before 1725 [his brother-in-law] John Monckton 1st Viscount Galway [aged 29] and [his sister] Elizabeth Manners Viscountess Galway [aged 15] were married. She by marriage Viscountess Galway. She the daughter of [his father] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland and [his mother] Catherine Russell Duchess Rutland.

Around 1726 [his daughter] Frances Manners was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 29] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 26].

In 1727 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 30] was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

On 17th February 1728 [his son] Frederick Manners was born to John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 31] and [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 28].

On 11th March 1730 [his son] William Manners [aged 5] died.

On 22nd March 1730 [his sister] Elizabeth Manners Viscountess Galway [aged 21] died.

In 1734 [his wife] Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland [aged 34] died.

On 3rd February 1739 [his daughter] Frances Manners [aged 13] died.

In June 1740 [his daughter] Leonora Manners died.

On 28th October 1742 [his brother-in-law] William Graham 2nd Duke Montrose [aged 30] and [his half-sister] Lucy Manners Duchess Montrose [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Duchess Montrose. She the daughter of [his father] John Manners 2nd Duke Rutland and [his step-mother] Lucy Sherard Duchess Rutland [aged 57]. He the son of James Graham 1st Duke Montrose.

On 5th December 1749 George Manners-Sutton [aged 26] and Diana Chaplin [aged 18] were married. He the son of John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 53] and Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland.

On 3rd September 1750 John Manners Marquess of Granby [aged 29] and Frances Seymour [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of Charles Seymour 6th Duke of Somerset and Charlotte Finch Duchess Somerset [aged 57]. He the son of John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 53] and Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland. They were fifth cousins.

In October 1751 [his son-in-law] Thomas Thoroton [aged 28] and [his illegitimate daughter] Roosilia Drake were married. She the illegitmate daughter of John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 54].

In 1755 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 58] was appointed Lord High Steward.

In 1761 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 64] was appointed Master of the Horse.

On 19th November 1762 [his son] Robert Manners-Sutton [aged 40] died.

On 5th February 1768 George Manners-Sutton [aged 44] and Mary Peart were married. He the son of John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 71] and Bridget Sutton Duchess Rutland.

On 18th October 1770 [his son] John Manners Marquess of Granby [aged 49] died.

On 29th May 1779 John Manners 3rd Duke Rutland [aged 82] died. His grandson Charles [aged 25] succeeded 4th Duke Rutland, 4th Marquess Grandby, 12th Earl of Rutland, 4th Baron Manners of Haddon in Derbyshire. Mary Isabella Somerset Duchess Rutland [aged 22] by marriage Duchess Rutland.
