On 6th November 1766 [his father] Henry Howard [aged 30] and [his mother] Mary Mackenzie were married.

On 29th November 1767 Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham was born to Henry Howard [aged 31] and Mary Mackenzie.

On 27th May 1800 Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 32] and Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Baroness Howard of Effingham. She the daughter of Neil Primrose 3rd Earl Rosebery [aged 71] and Mary Vincent Countess Rosebery [aged 48]. They were first cousin once removed.

On 30th October 1803 [his daughter] Charlotte Howard was born to Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 35] and [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 27]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.12%.

On 23rd August 1806 [his son] Henry Howard 2nd Earl of Effingham was born to Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 38] and [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 30]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.12%. He married 1832 Eliza Drummond Baroness Howard and had issue.

On 6th December 1807 [his son] Charles Howard was born to Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 40] and [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 31]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.12%.

In 1808 [his brother-in-law] Archibald Primrose 4th Earl Rosebery [aged 24] and Harriett Bouverie Countess Camden [aged 17] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] Neil Primrose 3rd Earl Rosebery [aged 79] and [his mother-in-law] Mary Vincent Countess Rosebery [aged 55].

On 25th January 1809 [his daughter] Arabella Georgina Howard Baroness Northbrook was born to Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 41] and [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 33]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.12%. She married 1841 Francis Baring 1st Baron Northbrook, son of Thomas Baring 2nd Baronet and Mary Ursula Sealy Lady Baring, and had issue.

On 10th September 1811 [his father] Henry Howard [aged 75] died.

Deeds of King Henry V

Henrici Quinti, Angliæ Regis, Gesta, is a first-hand account of the Agincourt Campaign, and subsequent events to his death in 1422. The author of the first part was a Chaplain in King Henry's retinue who was present from King Henry's departure at Southampton in 1415, at the siege of Harfleur, the battle of Agincourt, and the celebrations on King Henry's return to London. The second part, by another writer, relates the events that took place including the negotiations at Troye, Henry's marriage and his death in 1422.

On 23rd April 1815 [his son] William Howard was born to Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 47] and [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 39]. Coefficient of inbreeding 3.12%.

On 11th December 1816 Richard Howard 4th Earl of Effingham [aged 68] died. Earl of Effingham extinct. His third cousin Kenneth [aged 49] succeeded 11th Baron Howard of Effingham.

In 1819 [his brother-in-law] Archibald Primrose 4th Earl Rosebery [aged 35] and Anna Margaret Anson Countess Camden [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Countess Camden. He the son of [his father-in-law] Neil Primrose 3rd Earl Rosebery and [his mother-in-law] Mary Vincent Countess Rosebery [aged 66].

On 8th September 1831 King William IV of the United Kingdom [aged 66] was crowned IV King Great Britain and Ireland at Westminster Abbey [Map].

Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 63] attended as Deputy Earl Marshal as a result of Henry Howard-Molyneux-Howard being ill.

Thomas William Anson 1st Earl Lichfield [aged 35] was created 1st Earl Lichfield. Louisa Barbara Catherine Phillips Countess Lichfield [aged 31] by marriage Countess Lichfield.

On 19th July 1821 Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 53] attended as Deputy Earl Marshal as a result of Henry Howard-Molyneux-Howard [aged 54] being ill at Westminster Abbey [Map] during the Coronation of William IV.

On 19th July 1821 King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland [aged 58] was crowned IV King Great Britain and Ireland.

King George IV of Great Britain and Ireland barred Caroline of Brunswick Queen Consort England [aged 53] from attending the Coronation. She attempted to attend but was turned away at the doors of Westminster Abbey. Refused entry at both the doors to the East Cloister and the doors to the West Cloister, Caroline attempted to enter via Westminster Hall, where many guests were gathered before the service began. A witness described how the Queen stood at the door fuming as bayonets were held under her chin until the deputy lord chamberlain had the doors slammed in her face. Henry Brougham recorded his distaste.1. She died three weeks later.

William Cavendish 6th Duke Devonshire [aged 31] carried the Orb at Westminster Abbey [Map].

In 1832 Henry Howard 2nd Earl of Effingham [aged 25] and Eliza Drummond Baroness Howard [aged 21] were married. He the son of Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 64] and Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 56].

In 1837 Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 69] was created 1st Earl of Effingham. [his wife] Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 61] by marriage Countess of Effingham.

In 1841 [his son-in-law] Francis Baring 1st Baron Northbrook [aged 44] and Arabella Georgina Howard Baroness Northbrook [aged 31] were married at St George's Church, Hanover Square. She the daughter of Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 73] and Charlotte Primrose Countess Effingham [aged 65].

On 13th February 1845 Kenneth Alexander Howard 1st Earl of Effingham [aged 77] died. His son Henry [aged 38] succeeded 2nd Earl of Effingham, 12th Baron Howard of Effingham. Eliza Drummond Baroness Howard [aged 34] by marriage Countess of Effingham.

Memoires of Jacques du Clercq

This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.
