On 27th November 1397 [his father] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence were married. She by marriage Countess Somerset. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and [his grandmother] Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent. He the illegitmate son of John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster and Katherine Swynford aka Roet Duchess Lancaster.
In 1403 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was born to John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence.
On 25th March 1404 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was baptised.
On 16th March 1410 [his father] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset died at Hospital of St Katharine's by the Tower, Tower Hill. He was buried at St Michael's Chapel, Canterbury Cathedral. [his brother] Henry Beaufort 2nd Earl Somerset succeeded 2nd Earl Somerset.
In November 1411 [his step-father] Thomas Lancaster 1st Duke of Clarence and [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Thomas Holland 2nd Earl Kent and [his grandmother] Alice Fitzalan Countess Kent. He the son of [his uncle] King Henry IV of England and Mary Bohun.
In 1412 [his step-father] Thomas Lancaster 1st Duke of Clarence was created 1st Duke Clarence by [his uncle] King Henry IV of England. [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence by marriage Duchess Clarence.
On 29th July 1418 the English forces commenced the Siege of Rouen. Robert Willoughby 6th Baron Willoughby fought. John Blount died. William Harrington, the King's Standard Bearer, was wounded.

[his brother] Henry Beaufort 2nd Earl Somerset was killed. John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset succeeded 3rd Earl Somerset.
In 1419 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset fought in his cousin King Henry V of England campaigns in France.
Around 1420 [his brother-in-law] Thomas Courtenay 5th or 13th Earl Devon and [his sister] Margaret Beaufort Countess Devon were married. She the daughter of [his father] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence. He the son of Hugh Courtenay 4th or 12th Earl Devon and Anne Talbot Countess Devon.
Before 22nd March 1421 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset accompanied the King's younger brother [his step-father] Thomas Lancaster 1st Duke of Clarence to the fighting in Anjou.
On 22nd March 1421 the Dauphin's French army and a Scottish army heavily defeated the English army at the Battle of Baugé. On the French side Étienne Vignolles "La Hire" fought. On the Scottish side John Stewart 2nd Earl Buchan and John Stewart of Darnley 1st Count Évreux fought. William Douglas was killed.
On the English side John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset, [his uncle] Thomas Beaufort 1st Duke Exeter, [his brother] Thomas Beaufort Count Perche and John Holland 2nd Duke Exeter were captured. John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset would be captive for the next seventeen years. Thomas Beaufort 1st Duke Exeter was released in 1422. Thomas Beaufort Count Perche was released around 1427 in a prisoner exchange.

On 12th February 1424 [his brother-in-law] King James I of Scotland and [his sister] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland were married at Southwark Cathedral. She by marriage Queen Consort Scotland. On 3rd October 1431 [his brother] Thomas Beaufort Count Perche was killed at Louviers, Eure, Haute Normandie during the Siege of Louviers.
In or before 1432 [his brother] Edmund Beaufort 1st or 2nd Duke of Somerset and [his sister-in-law] Eleanor Beauchamp Duchess Somerset were married. She the daughter of Richard Beauchamp 13th Earl Warwick and Elizabeth Berkeley Countess Warwick. He the son of [his father] John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence.
On 21st February 1437 [his brother-in-law] King James I of Scotland was assassinated at Blackfriars. He was buried at Carthusian Charterhouse, Perth. [his nephew] King James II of Scotland succeeded II King Scotland. His wife, [his sister] Joan Beaufort Queen Consort Scotland, managed to escape.
In 1438 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was released after have been captive for seventeen years following his capture at the Battle of Baugé.
In 1439 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset and Margaret Beauchamp Duchess Somerset were married. She by marriage Countess Somerset. He the son of John Beaufort 1st Marquess Somerset and Dorset and Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence.

On 31st December 1439 [his mother] Margaret Holland Duchess Clarence died.
Around 1440 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was appointed Admiral of the Sea.
In 1442 [his brother] Edmund Beaufort 1st or 2nd Duke of Somerset was created 1st Marquess Dorset. [his sister-in-law] Eleanor Beauchamp Duchess Somerset by marriage Marchioness Dorset.
In 1443 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was appointed 156th Knight of the Garter by King Henry VI of England and II of France.
In April 1443 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset declared himself Lieutenant of Aquitaine and Captain-General of Guyenne. He was paid £25,000 attracting the enmity of Richard Plantagenet 3rd Duke of York whose significants debts remained unpaid by the Crown.
In September 1443 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset led 7000 men to Cherbourg. He returned around December 1443 having achieved nothing but the loss of all his funds and, possibly, half his men.
In August 1443 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset landed 7000 men at Cherbourg and then marched south. His campaign achieved little being bought off by Francis Montfort I Duke Brittany. He marched through Maine then returned to England in the winter of 1443.

On 31st May 1443 [his daughter] Margaret Beaufort Countess Richmond was born to John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset and [his wife] Margaret Beauchamp Duchess Somerset at Bletsoe Castle. Some sources suggest her birth may have been two years earlier in 1441 by saying she was three years old when her father died on 30 May 1444 - see Excerpta Historica. She married 1. January 1450 John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk, son of William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk and Alice Chaucer Duchess Suffolk 2. 1st November 1455 Edmund Tudor 1st Earl Richmond, son of Owen Tudor and Catherine of Valois Queen Consort England, and had issue 3. 3rd January 1458 Henry Stafford, son of Humphrey Stafford 1st Duke of Buckingham and Anne Neville Duchess Buckingham 4. 12th June 1472 Thomas Stanley 1st Earl of Derby, son of Thomas Stanley 1st Baron Stanley and Jane Goushill Baroness Stanley.
Before 20th June 1443 [his illegitimate daughter] Tacine Beaufort Baroness Grey Wilton was born illegitimately to John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset.
On 28th August 1443 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset was created 1st Duke Somerset, 1st Earl Kendal by King Henry VI of England and II of France. [his wife] Margaret Beauchamp Duchess Somerset by marriage Duchess Somerset.
Around 1444 [his illegitimate son] John Beaufort was born illegitimately to John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset.
On 30th May 1444 John Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset committed suicide. Suicide not certain but likely. Duke Somerset, Earl Kendal extinct. [his brother] Edmund Beaufort 1st or 2nd Duke of Somerset succeeded 4th Earl Somerset. [his sister-in-law] Eleanor Beauchamp Duchess Somerset by marriage Countess Somerset.
His only child [his daughter] Margaret Beaufort Countess Richmond aged one was his heir. King Henry VI of England and II of France granted her wardship to William "Jackanapes" de la Pole 1st Duke of Suffolk who married her to his son [his future son-in-law] John de la Pole 2nd Duke of Suffolk.
On 14th April 1447 Lionel Welles 6th Baron Welles and [his former wife] Margaret Beauchamp Duchess Somerset were married. She by marriage Baroness Welles.
On 8th August 1482 [his former wife] Margaret Beauchamp Duchess Somerset died. She was buried at Wimborne Minster, Dorset.
