Robert Pierrepont 3rd Earl Kingston 1660-1682

John Evelyn's Diary. 2nd July 1649. I went from Wotton, Surrey [Map] to Godstone, Surrey (the residence of Sir John Evelyn [aged 58]), where was also [his grandfather] Sir John Evelyn of Wilts. [aged 47], when I took leave of both Sir Johns and their ladies. Mem. the prodigious memory of Sir John of Wilts' daughter, since married to Mr. W. Pierrepont [Note. Mr R Pierrepoint], and mother of the present Earl of Kingston. I returned to Sayes Court, Deptford [Map] this night.

Around 1660 Robert Pierrepont 3rd Earl Kingston was born to Robert Pierrepont and Elizabeth Evelyn.

In 1666 [his father] Robert Pierrepont died.

On 8th December 1680 Henry Pierrepont 1st Marquess Dorchester [aged 74] died. He was buried at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottinghamshire [Map]. Marquess Dorchester extinct. His great nephew Robert [aged 20] succeeded 3rd Earl Kingston upon Hull, 3rd Viscount Newark, 3rd Baron Pierrepont of Holme Pierrepoint.

John Evelyn's Diary. 15th November 1681. I dined with the Earl of Essex [aged 49] who, after dinner in his study, where we were alone, related to me how much he had been scandalized and injured in the report of his being privy to the marriage of his Lady's [aged 45] niece [aged 14], the rich young widow of the late Lord Ogle, sole daughter of the Earl of Northumberland; showing me a letter of Mr. Thynn's [aged 33], excusing himself for not communicating his marriage to his Lordship. He acquainted me also with the whole story of that unfortunate lady being betrayed by her grandmother, the Countess of Northumberland [aged 58], and Colonel Bret, for money; and that though, upon the importunity of the Duke of Monmouth [aged 32], he had delivered to the grandmother a particular of the jointure which Mr. Thynn pretended he would settle on the lady, yet he totally discouraged the proceeding as by no means a competent match for one that both by birth and fortune might have pretended to the greatest prince in Christendom; that he also proposed the Earl of Kingston [aged 21], or the Lord Cranburn, but was by no means for Mr. Thynn.

In June 1682 Robert Pierrepont 3rd Earl Kingston [aged 22] died at Dieppe, Seine Maritime, Haute Normandie. He was buried at the Church of St Edmund, Holme Pierrepoint [Map]. His brother William [aged 20] succeeded 4th Earl Kingston upon Hull, 4th Viscount Newark, 4th Baron Pierrepont of Holme Pierrepoint.

John Evelyn's Diary. 6th June 1687. I visited my Lady Pierpoint, daughter to Sir John Evelyn, of Deane [in Wilts], now widow of Mr. Pierpoint, and mother of the Earl of Kingston. She was now engaged in the marriage of my cousin, Evelyn Pierpoint [aged 32], her second son.

In or before 1660 [his father] Robert Pierrepont and [his mother] Elizabeth Evelyn were married.
