Before 6th November 1500 David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford and Elizabeth Hay [aged 15] were married. She the daughter of William Hay 3rd Earl Erroll [aged 51] and Elizabeth Leslie Countess Errol. He the son of Alexander Lindsay 7th Earl Crawford [aged 60]. They were fifth cousins.
On 14th January 1507 [his father-in-law] William Hay 3rd Earl Erroll [aged 58] died. His son [his brother-in-law] William succeeded 4th Earl Erroll. Christian Lyon Countess Erroll [aged 25] by marriage Countess Erroll.
On 24th January 1511 [his wife] Elizabeth Hay [aged 25] died.
In 1513 John Lindsay 6th Earl Crawford [aged 18] died. His uncle [his father] Alexander [aged 72] succeeded 7th Earl Crawford.
In 1517 [his father] Alexander Lindsay 7th Earl Crawford [aged 76] died. His son David succeeded 8th Earl Crawford.
In 1522 [his daughter] Isobel Lindsay was born to David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford and [his future wife] Isobel Lundie Countess Crawford and Rothes [aged 20].
In 1526 David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford and Isobel Lundie Countess Crawford and Rothes [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Countess Crawford. He the son of Alexander Lindsay 7th Earl Crawford.
Before 29th January 1530 George Leslie 4th Earl Rothes [aged 45] and [his wife] Isobel Lundie Countess Crawford and Rothes [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Countess Rothes.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

In 1537 [his son] Alexander "Wicked Master" Lindsay attempted to kill his father David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford and, as a consequence was disinherited. David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford chose as his successor David Lindsay 9th Earl Crawford [aged 34].
In 1542 [his son] Alexander "Wicked Master" Lindsay died.
On 27th November 1542 David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford died. His second cousin once removed David [aged 39] succeeded 9th Earl Crawford.
Before 2nd February 1550 [his former wife] Isobel Lundie Countess Crawford and Rothes [aged 48] died
[his son] Alexander "Wicked Master" Lindsay was born to David Lindsay 8th Earl Crawford and Elizabeth Hay.
