On 5th November 1859 [his father] William George Granville Harcourt [aged 32] and [his mother] Maria Thérese Lister were married. They were fifth cousins.

On 31st January 1863 Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt was born to William George Granville Harcourt [aged 35] and Maria Thérese Lister at Nuneham House, Oxfordshire. His mother died a day after his birth.

On 1st February 1863 [his mother] Maria Thérese Lister died from childbirth a day after giving birth to her second son Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt.

On 1st July 1889 Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 26] and Mary Burns Viscountess Harcourt [aged 14] were married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map].

In 1900 [his daughter] Doris Mary Thérèse Harcourt was born to Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 36] and [his wife] Mary Burns Viscountess Harcourt [aged 25]. She married 17th November 1924 Alexander Baring 6th Baron Ashburton, son of Francis Denzil Edward Baring 5th Baron Ashburton and Mabel Edith Hood Baroness Ashburton, and had issue.

In 1902 [his son] Olivia Vernon Harcourt was born to Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 38] and [his wife] Mary Burns Viscountess Harcourt [aged 27].

On 1st October 1904 [his father] William George Granville Harcourt [aged 76] died.

In 1905 [his son] Barbara Vernon Harcourt was born to Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 41] and [his wife] Mary Burns Viscountess Harcourt [aged 30].

On 5th October 1908 [his son] William Edward Harcourt 2nd Viscount Harcourt was born to Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 45] and [his wife] Mary Burns Viscountess Harcourt [aged 34]. He married (1) 1st June 1931 Maud Elizabeth Grosvenor Viscountess Harcourt, daughter of Francis Egerton Grosvenor 4th Baron Ebury.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

In 1917 Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 53] was created 1st Viscount Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire.

On 24th February 1922 Lewis Vernon-Harcourt 1st Viscount Harcourt [aged 59] died. His son William [aged 13] succeeded 2nd Viscount Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire.
