He the son of John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 46] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 43].
On 14th April 1798 Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer was born to George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer [aged 39] and Lavinia Bingham Countess Spencer [aged 36].
On 23rd February 1830 Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 31] and Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 30] were married. He the son of George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer [aged 71] and Lavinia Bingham Countess Spencer [aged 68]. They were second cousins.
In 1831 [his mother] Lavinia Bingham Countess Spencer [aged 69] died.
In 1832 [his daughter] Georgiana Frances Spencer was born to Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 33] and [his wife] Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 32]. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.57%.
In 1834 [his father] George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer [aged 75] died. His son [his brother] John [aged 52] succeeded 3rd Earl Spencer, 3rd Viscount Althorp, 3rd Viscount Spencer, 3rd Baron Spencer Althorp.
In 1835 [his son] John Poyntz Spencer 5th Earl Spencer was born to Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 36] and [his wife] Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 35]. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.57%.
In July 1835 [his future father-in-law] Horace Beauchamp Seymour-Conway [aged 43] and [his sister-in-law] Frances Isabella Selina Poyntz Marchioness of Exeter [aged 32] were married. They were third cousins. He a great x 3 grandson of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland.
In 1838 [his daughter] Sarah Isabella Spencer was born to Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 39] and [his wife] Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 38]. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.57%.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

In 1845 John Charles Spencer 3rd Earl Spencer [aged 63] died. His brother Frederick [aged 46] succeeded 4th Earl Spencer, 4th Viscount Althorp, 4th Viscount Spencer, 4th Baron Spencer Althorp. Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 45] by marriage Countess Spencer.
In 1849 Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 50] was appointed 705th Knight of the Garter by Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom [aged 29].
In 1851 Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 52] and Adelaide Horatia Seymour-Conway Countess Spencer [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Countess Spencer. The difference in their ages was 26 years. He the son of George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer and Lavinia Bingham Countess Spencer.
On 10th April 1851 [his wife] Elizabeth Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 52] died.
In 1852 [his daughter] Georgiana Frances Spencer [aged 20] died.
In 1855 [his daughter] Victoria Alexandrina Spencer was born to Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 56] and [his wife] Adelaide Horatia Seymour-Conway Countess Spencer [aged 29].
On 30th October 1857 [his son] Charles Robert Spencer 6th Earl Spencer was born to Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 59] and [his wife] Adelaide Horatia Seymour-Conway Countess Spencer [aged 32]. He married 23rd July 1887 Margaret Baring Countess Spencer, daughter of Edward Baring 1st Baron Revelstoke and Louisa Emily Charlotte Bulteel Baroness Revelstoke, and had issue.
On 27th December 1857 Frederick Spencer 4th Earl Spencer [aged 59] died. His son John [aged 22] succeeded 5th Earl Spencer, 5th Viscount Althorp, 5th Viscount Spencer, 5th Baron Spencer Althorp.
On 29th October 1877 [his former wife] Adelaide Horatia Seymour-Conway Countess Spencer [aged 52] died.
