Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer 1737-1814

On 8th May 1737 Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer was born to BB/History/k5/Poyntz-Paternal-Family-TreeStephen Poyntz 1685-1750 [aged 51] and BB/History/l9/Mordaunt-Paternal-Family-TreeAnna Maria Mordaunt -1771 at St James's Palace [Map].

On 18th October 1744 Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough [aged 84] died. The majority of her considerable estate was left to her great-grandson [her future husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 9] with the condition that he could not accept a political office under the government: "from any King or Queen of these realms any pension, or any office or employment, civil or military" (except the Rangership of Windsor Great or Little Park), the estate would pass to the next heir "as if the same John Spencer were actually dead."

On 17th December 1750 [her father] BB/History/k5/Poyntz-Paternal-Family-TreeStephen Poyntz 1685-1750 [aged 65] died at Midgham, Berkshire.

On 20th December 1755 John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 21] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 18] were married at Althorp House, Northamptonshire [Map]. On 7th June 1757 [her daughter] Georgiana Spencer Duchess Devonshire was born to [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 22] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 20] at Althorp House, Northamptonshire [Map]. She married 7th June 1774 her fourth cousin William Cavendish 5th Duke Devonshire, son of William Cavendish 4th Duke Devonshire and BB/History/f7/Boyle-Paternal-Family-TreeCharlotte Elizabeth Boyle Marchioness Hartington 1731-1754, and had issue.

On 1st September 1758 [her son] George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer was born to [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 23] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 21]. He married 6th March 1781 BB/History/n2/Bingham-Paternal-Family-TreeLavinia Bingham Countess Spencer 1762-1831, daughter of Charles Bingham 1st Earl Lucan and Margaret Smith Countess Lucan, and had issue.

On 3rd April 1761 [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 26] was created 1st Viscount Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer Althorp. Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 23] by marriage Viscountess Spencer, 1st Baroness Spencer Althorp.

On 16th June 1761 [her daughter] Henrietta Frances Spencer Countess Bessborough was born to [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 26] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 24]. She married 27th November 1780 her fifth cousin BB/History/d7/Ponsonby-Paternal-Family-TreeFrederick Ponsonby 3rd Earl Bessborough 1758-1844, son of William Ponsonby 2nd Earl Bessborough and BB/History/b5/Cavendish-Paternal-Family-TreeCaroline Cavendish Countess Bessborough 1719-1760, and had issue.

In 1765 [her daughter] BB/History/l2/Spencer-Paternal-Family-TreeCharlotte Spencer 1765-1766 was born to [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 30] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 27]. She died aged one in 1766.

On 7th June 1774 [her son-in-law] William Cavendish 5th Duke Devonshire [aged 26] and Georgiana Spencer Duchess Devonshire [aged 17] were married at St Mary's Church, Wimbledon. It was her 17th birthday. She by marriage Duchess Devonshire. She the daughter of John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 39] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 37]. He the son of William Cavendish 4th Duke Devonshire and BB/History/f7/Boyle-Paternal-Family-TreeCharlotte Elizabeth Boyle Marchioness Hartington 1731-1754. They were fourth cousins.

On 27th November 1780 [her son-in-law] BB/History/d7/Ponsonby-Paternal-Family-TreeFrederick Ponsonby 3rd Earl Bessborough 1758-1844 [aged 22] and Henrietta Frances Spencer Countess Bessborough [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Countess Bessborough. She the daughter of John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 45] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 43]. He the son of William Ponsonby 2nd Earl Bessborough [aged 76] and BB/History/b5/Cavendish-Paternal-Family-TreeCaroline Cavendish Countess Bessborough 1719-1760. They were fifth cousins.

On 6th March 1781 George John Spencer 2nd Earl Spencer [aged 22] and BB/History/n2/Bingham-Paternal-Family-TreeLavinia Bingham Countess Spencer 1762-1831 [aged 19] were married. She the daughter of Charles Bingham 1st Earl Lucan [aged 45] and Margaret Smith Countess Lucan [aged 41]. He the son of John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 46] and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 43].

On 31st October 1783 [her husband] John Spencer 1st Earl Spencer [aged 48] died at Bath, Somerset [Map]. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Great Brington, Northamptonshire. His succeeded son George [aged 25] succeeded 2nd Earl Spencer, 2nd Viscount Althorp, 2nd Viscount Spencer, 2nd Baron Spencer Althorp. On 30th March 1806 Georgiana Spencer Duchess Devonshire [aged 48] died at Devonshire House [Map]. She was buried at Derby Cathedral [Map]. Her husband William Cavendish 5th Duke Devonshire [aged 58], her mother Margaret Georgiana Poyntz Countess Spencer [aged 68], her sister Henrietta Frances Spencer Countess Bessborough [aged 44] and her eight months pregnant daughter Georgiana Cavendish Countess Carlisle [aged 22] were present, as was Elizabeth Christiana Hervey Duchess Devonshire [aged 48], her husband's mistress and future wife.
