1st. 1706. Thomas Pelham 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton. Extinct. 17th November 1768.

2nd. 12th May 1762. Thomas Pelham Holles 1st Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne. Extant.

23rd January 1712. Son Thomas Pelham Holles 1st Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 18] succeeded.

17th November 1768. Thomas Pelham Holles 1st Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne extinct.

In 1706 Thomas Pelham 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton [aged 53] was created 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton.

On 23rd January 1712 Thomas Pelham 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton [aged 59] died. His son Thomas [aged 18] succeeded 2nd Baron Pelham of Laughton, 5th Baronet Pelham of Laughton.

22nd November 1926. Brother John Pelham 8th Earl of Chichester [aged 14] succeeded.

14th April 1944. Son John Pelham 9th Earl Chichester succeeded.

On 4th May 1762 King George III of Great Britain and Ireland [aged 23] created a number of new peerages...

Edward Noel 1st Viscount Wentworth [aged 46] was created 1st Viscount Wentworth.

William Courtenay 7th Earl Devon [aged 53] was created 1st Viscount Courtenay.

Thomas Pelham Holles 1st Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 68] was created 1st Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex with default to his cousin Thomas Pelham [aged 34].

Caroline Lennox 1st Baroness Holland [aged 39] was created 1st Baroness Holland in Lincolnshire. Henry Fox 1st Baron Holland [aged 56] by marriage Baron Holland in Lincolnshire.

John Perceval 2nd Earl Egmont [aged 51] was created 1st Baron Lovel and Holland of Enmore in Somerset.

John Montagu 1st Baron Montagu [aged 27] was created 1st Baron Montagu of Boughton in Northamptonshire.

Joseph Damer 1st Earl Dorchester [aged 44] was created 1st Baron Milton of Milton Abbey in Dorset.

Edward Hussey-Montagu 1st Earl Beaulieu [aged 41] was created 1st Baron Beaulieu of Beaulieu in Hampshire with a special remainder to his heirs male with his current wife Isabella Montagu Duchess Manchester [aged 56].

On 12th May 1762 George Venables-Vernon 1st Baron Vernon [aged 53] was created 1st Baron Vernon of Kinderton in Cheshire. Martha Harcourt Baroness Vernon of Kinderton [aged 46] by marriage Baroness Vernon of Kinderton in Cheshire.

George Fox Lane 1st Baron Bingley [aged 65] was created 1st Baron Bingley. Harriet Benson Baroness Bingley [aged 57] by marriage Baroness Bingley.

On 17th November 1768 Thomas Pelham Holles 1st Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 75] died without issue. He was buried in the Pelham family vault at All Saint's Church, Laughton. Duke Newcastle upon Tyne, Marquess Clare, Earl Clare, Viscount Haughton and Baron Pelham of Laughton extinct.

Henry Fiennes Pelham-Clinton 2nd Duke Newcastle-under-Lyne [aged 48] succeeded 2nd Duke Newcastle under Lyme.

Thomas Pelham 1st Earl Chichester [aged 40] succeeded 2nd Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 6th Baronet Pelham of Laughton.

On 8th January 1805 Thomas Pelham 1st Earl Chichester [aged 76] died. His son Thomas [aged 48] succeeded 2nd Earl Chichester, 3rd Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 7th Baronet Pelham of Laughton. Mary Henrietta Juliana Osborne Countess Chichester [aged 28] by marriage Countess Chichester.

On 4th July 1826 Thomas Pelham 2nd Earl Chichester [aged 70] died. His son Henry [aged 21] succeeded 3rd Earl Chichester, 4th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 8th Baronet Pelham of Laughton.

Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough

A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'

On 15th March 1886 Henry Pelham 3rd Earl Chichester [aged 81] died. His son Walter [aged 47] succeeded 4th Earl Chichester, 5th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 9th Baronet Pelham of Laughton. Elizabeth Mary Bligh Countess Chichester by marriage Countess Chichester.

On 28th May 1902 Walter John Pelham 4th Earl Chichester [aged 63] died at Stanmer House Stanmer Park Falmer Brighton. He was buried at Stanmer Church Stanmer Park Falmer Brighton. His brother Francis [aged 57] succeeded 5th Earl Chichester, 6th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 10th Baronet Pelham of Laughton. Alice Carr Glyn Countess Chichester by marriage Countess Chichester.

On 21st April 1905 Francis Godolphin Pelham 5th Earl Chichester [aged 60] died. His son Jocelyn [aged 33] succeeded 6th Earl Chichester, 7th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 11th Baronet Pelham of Laughton. Ruth Buxton Countess Chichester by marriage Countess Chichester.

On 14th November 1926 Jocelyn Pelham 6th Earl Chichester [aged 55] died. His son Francis [aged 21] succeeded 7th Earl Chichester, 8th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 12th Baronet Pelham of Laughton albeit dying some nine days later.

On 22nd November 1926 Francis Pelham 7th Earl Chichester [aged 21] died of pneumonia unmarried at Stanmer Park Falmer Brighton. His brother John [aged 14] succeeded 8th Earl Chichester, 9th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 13th Baronet Pelham of Laughton.

On 14th April 1944 John Pelham 9th Earl Chichester was born to John Pelham 8th Earl of Chichester posthumously his father having been killed in a car accident around eight weeks before. At birth he succeeded his father as 9th Earl Chichester, 10th Baron Pelham of Stanmer in Sussex and 14th Baronet Pelham of Laughton.
