Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington 1727-1792

On 2nd September 1725 [his father] Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington [aged 20] and [his mother] Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington [aged 28] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Charles Fitzroy 1st Duke Southampton 2nd Duke Cleveland [aged 63] and [his grandmother] Anne Pulteney Duchess Southampton Duchess of Cleveland [aged 61].

Around 1727 Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington was born to Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington [aged 22] and Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington [aged 29]. He a great grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 3rd July 1749 Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington [aged 22] graduated at Christ Church College, Oxford University.

In 1753 [his grandfather] Gilbert Vane 2nd Baron Barnard [aged 75] died. His son [his father] Henry [aged 48] succeeded 3rd Baron Barnard. [his mother] Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington [aged 55] by marriage Baroness Barnard.

On 19th March 1757 Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington [aged 30] and Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington [aged 29] were married at London. He the son of Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington [aged 52] and Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington [aged 59].

On 6th March 1758 [his father] Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington [aged 53] died. His son Henry [aged 31] succeeded 2nd Earl Darlington, 2nd Viscount Barnard, 4th Baron Barnard. [his wife] Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington [aged 30] by marriage Countess Darlington.

On 7th September 1761 [his brother-in-law] James Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale [aged 25] and Mary Stuart Countess Lonsdale [aged 20] were married. She the daughter of John Stuart 3rd Earl Bute [aged 48] and Mary Wortley-Montagu Countess Bute [aged 43].

On 29th September 1763 [his mother] Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington [aged 66] died.

On 8th April 1765 Harry Powlett 6th Duke Bolton [aged 44] and [his sister-in-law] Katherine Lowther Duchess of Bolton [aged 29] were married. He the son of Harry Powlett 4th Duke Bolton and Catherine Parry.

On 5th July 1765 Charles Powlett 5th Duke Bolton [aged 47] committed suicide at Grosvenor Square, Belgravia shooting himself in the head with a pistol. His brother Harry [aged 44] succeeded 6th Duke Bolton, 11th Marquess Winchester, 11th Earl Wiltshire, 11th Baron St John. [his sister-in-law] Katherine Lowther Duchess of Bolton [aged 29] by marriage Duchess Bolton.

On 27th July 1766 [his son] William Henry Vane 1st Duke Cleveland was born to Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington [aged 39] and [his wife] Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington [aged 38]. William Henry Vane 1st Duke Cleveland was christened at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace. His given names were William Harry which he later changed to William Henry. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. He married 17th September 1787 his first cousin Catharine Margaret Powlett Countess Darlington, daughter of Harry Powlett 6th Duke Bolton and Katherine Lowther Duchess of Bolton, and had issue.

On 24th May 1784 [his brother-in-law] James Lowther 1st Earl Lonsdale [aged 47] was created 1st Baron Lowther. Mary Stuart Countess Lonsdale [aged 43] by marriage Baroness Lowther.

She the daughter of Harry Powlett 6th Duke Bolton [aged 66] and Katherine Lowther Duchess of Bolton [aged 51]. He the son of Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington [aged 60] and Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington [aged 59]. They were first cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 10th September 1792 Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington [aged 65] died at Raby Castle, County Durham [Map]. He was buried at Raby Castle, County Durham [Map]. His son William [aged 26] succeeded 3rd Earl Darlington, 3rd Viscount Barnard, 5th Baron Barnard. Catharine Margaret Powlett Countess Darlington [aged 26] by marriage Countess Darlington.

On 10th September 1800 [his former wife] Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington [aged 72] died. She has a monument sculpted by Richard Cooke at St Mary's Church, Staindrop [Map] commissioned by her son William Henry Vane 1st Duke Cleveland [aged 34].

Margaret Lowther Countess Darlington: In 1728 she was born to Robert Lowther and Katherine Pennington. On 19th March 1757 Henry Vane 2nd Earl Darlington and she were married at London. He the son of Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington and Grace Fitzroy Countess Darlington. On 6th March 1758 Henry Vane 1st Earl Darlington died. His son Henry succeeded 2nd Earl Darlington, 2nd Viscount Barnard, 4th Baron Barnard. She by marriage Countess Darlington.
